Morning Lights

Contributed by B Vail

I took this picture early this morning. I was attempting to use the rule of thirds and try using a tripod for the first time. I got lucky because two cars went by giving me enough light for the shot. I used the curves tool to deepen the green color of the plants and increase the intensity of the lights.

i absolutely love this shot. only thing i don't really like is the water drops on the lens. i think it really takes away from the image. my eye is led around the picture and i'm distracted by them. other than that, the light and the composition of the mailbox make for a great picture.

Thanks i do kinda of agree with you on the water droplets but in a way i also thinks add a little realism to the picture instead of it being just a light stream and a mail box but i will definatly think about things like that next time.

Ok, first of all, good effort at getting out there with the tripod...early in the morning. I like the photo with the long shutter speed, the lines created by the cars moves my eye to the subject the mailbox. All this works. What I think it needs is to be cropped so the mailbox is on the 1/3 from the right. Getting rid of some of the bushes on the right will not hurt the composition. I do think the water droplets are distracting but I can live with them. The trash on the ground below the mailbox should have been removed before the shot was taken. Perhaps clone stamp it out.

this picture is amazing. it's focused well. and i think that if the cars weren't passing by while you took this shot, this picture wouldn't have been the same. the lights from the cars and the darkness of the road and mailbox make for great contrast. nice shot!
