I chose this composition because it's one of my favorite edited photos from my past summer in France. This photo was taken in Paris from my hotel room. This work consists of the original photo layered underneath the edited version that I altered in indexed color mode. That way by combining the edited version with the old, it give it more of a real but painted look.

I like this photo / rendition a lot! The painting effect matches the composition and subject perfectly, in my opinion. It's also a good example of how just a few key elements can make (or break) an entire photo. Use your finger / hand to take away (cover) the crosswalk lines and the "do not enter" signs, and you'll see what I mean. Without them, it's a whole different (and argueably much less striking) photo... but the strong vertical lines in the foreground and the symmetry of the signs just add something that [to me] complete the photo and make it less ordinary. Even the red car in the front seems perfectly placed, as it is just enough to break up the monotony of the other tones in the photo. There's a lot of geometry in this shot. Lastly, the way the street leads the viewer perfectly thru the photo is also excellent. In short, this rendition is impressive. Nice work, Garver.
I agree that this is a well composed shot, the repetition and rhythm of the white car tops are reinforced and balanced by the crosswalk stripes and the "do not enter" signs. I agree that the red car also helps lend variety. The digital technique you are using also helps make this somewhat mundane street scene seem new and fresh causing the viewer to stop and take a closer look. Great all around job!
This is awesome Abby. I love it... nice work.
I love this photo. It's so different compared to the normal looks of photos. In many ways it looks so real and at the same time, it looks like a painting. It's really interesting to look at every detail and try to imagine this photo as a painting. Very good :)
