Dawson's Jump

Contributed by J Morris

This is a picture of my brother Dawson jumping over the wake while we were out and about on the lake. I thought the action of the shot was spectacular. I wish it was a bit more sunny that day so I could have gotten a bit more color in the trees and such. I saturated the background a bit to get more color. Overall I thought this was a great shot.

Great action shot. I like the moment you captured here, and I love the concentration on his face. Overall though the color looks pretty over-saturated. You mentioned that it wasn't very sunny so you didn't get good color in the trees, did you try messing with the white balance at all? Also I like how frozen the action is the water drops are even sharp. Overall I like the image, but I think that you might want to experiment with getting better color, but that's not always easy especially with high action stuff like this.

Nice action shot here Jay. Perfect moment right when he caught some air. Not always the easiest thing to do. As far as the saturation, it is difficult if not impossible to control how hazy the trees will look on a hot summer day in Alabama. You could straighten the horizon a bit ccw as it is going slightly downhill. The other thing I notice is that the image looks like it has some jpg artifacts, like you took it at a low quality setting or saved it as a low quality jpg. This keeps the details in his face from being clear and really detracts from the image.

sweet. I like how the water droplets are frozen and so well focused. that really helps to freeze the motion in the shot and to give the viewer a better impression of what its like back there on the board. the only room for improvement is, as you have noted, the color. but its still awesome. the wake from the boat pushes the eye upwards while the red rope and green trees guide the eye to Dawson. there is no doubt that he is the main subject. in fact, I think the picture would look a little more dynamic if you cropped out some of the still water to the right. all the motion is center and left. the right side just gives you an idea of how big the lake is, but thats not important.

i really love this picture. i like the way you captured his facial expression and how it shows how hard the jump actually is. it shows the effort but it also shows the amzing jump. great picture!

This is a really great action shot you took here. I like how you got the picture when he was at the height of his jump, which probably wasn't that easy to do. Nice job~

This is a cool picture... I wish that I could get that much air when I wakeboarded. Everytime that I try a trick I always fall on my face.

This is a fantastic photo. The deep view of the mountain and the marshes below are amazing. The bright colors of green and blue are very interesting..
