Wando River

Contributed by Ljett

This picture was taken at the creek on the Wando River in SC. I like the diagonal angle and the different colors in the weathered wood.

I'm kinda not sure about this photo. I like the concept and I do like parts of it, but the bolts are throwing me. The picture as a whole has the feel of being about something more natural, kind of a really old time feel, and the white metal bolts take away from that. At the same time, I kinda think something would be missing without them.

I love the composition of this picture. the rule of thirds was used kind of in an opposite way with the subject taking up 2/3rds and the space only 1/3.. (that sounds weird but whatever). a levels adjustment and a tiny bit of saturation would work wonders to make the grain of the wood stand out.

I love the idea behind this picture and the composition is compelling, but the thing that jumps out at me is those ugly silver bolts. They just look so unnatural with the wood and the murky water, and I can' help but wonder what this photo would look like without them. But that's just being nit-picky you can't exactly go take them off, but they do really detract from the calm feeling the rest of the photo gives off. Other then that the wood looks a little too green in some places and a too dark brown color in others, I think you would benefit from a little bit of color adjustment.

I like the rhythms in this image. First the pylons and their reflections that repeat and create a very stable image with their vertical lines. Then the whitish bolts create a secondary rhythm that is less is a bit more random. The bolts horizontal orientation balances well with the pylons and creates a very unique but balanced composition. I also love that you find beauty in the mundane. Technically I think the image could use a vibrancy and saturation adjustment. Keep 'em coming LJ!

I like the lighting and the depth of field used in this shot. However, the composition makes it difficult to tell what the subject is. The colors are too similarly bland. It’s hard to distinguish the wooden poles from the water; I had trouble deciphering what the photo was at first. Perhaps you could have helped this by adjusting your shot so there was some sky in the background. I do like your use of vertical lines, though. You have the right idea, just play around with it.

Wow. This shot really caught my attention, in a good way. I love how the dark wood contrasts with the bright yellow of the fabric and the pole. Even though the left and right sides are different colors, I think that adds to the photo and gives it a more rustic look. You focused and utilized your depth of field well, keeping the umbrella sharp while the pole leading to it is softer, helping lead to the subject but not distracting from it. I would definitely hang this photo on my wall. It would be a great addition to the décor in a beach house.

I really like this shot. the moment I saw it it made me think of piers out on the mobile bay where I spent many a summer. the only improvements that I have to suggest are a slight color adjustment to make it more vivid and (maybe its just my moniter) next time try to get a sharper image. the depth of field is nice the way it is, but it doesnt look very focused. anyway though, you have inspired me, I want to go to the bay now.

I like this picture it reminds me going down to the lake with my family and friends. What are those things sticking out of the wood? I also like how you can see the patterns of the wood standing in the water. I am still confused of what those little white things are.
