First Light

Contributed by N Capps

I took this picture at the Botanical Gardens as well. I like how the water and leaves are in focus, however, I wish I would have focused more on the flower. I did curves and levels adjustments. I also did a smart sharpen filter.

In this photo I like how the leaves seem to be outlined and there is a drip of water pooling out in the background.
The lighting of this could have been a little lighter or darker, right now I feel like this picture is in the middle stage where it is almost finished but not quite yet, and there is too much in focus. Maybe focus on one central subject and have the rest blurred?
The mood that is reflected is calm.

I think this picture is brilliant. I love the colors and the contrast between the flowers, the lily pads, and the water. I also like the water ripples in the back. This picture has a calming atmosphere and looks very peaceful. The depth of field also adds to your photo. You did an awesome job!

I like this photo because of the different colors and how sharp you made the picture look. I like the rain drop that hit the water in the back. I think it shows a relaxing type mood which is nice to see in a picture.

I like the bright colors in this photo. Also, I think that the placement of the flowers are different and very unique, I like how that works out. I like the ripples in the background too. One thing I think could be better is to get rid of the blurred look to the lilies in the front, but I know sometimes, that's hard to get around. Other than that, good job :)

The two main things that caught my eye are the vibrant colors, and the center focus on the one flower. I find it quite interesting, because it's something that you don't see every day. Keep up the good work!

i like this photo alot. i really like the lighting and colors of this. the only thing i think you should have changed is the way the two flowers are cut off the picture. i love the reflections in the water

This is a great shot. It looks like it should be in a makeup ad in a magazine or something. The pink flowers definitely pop. I would have not cut out the two other flowers though. I would have also toned down the contrast a bit, but all in all, great shot.

I like this photo I love how the flower is right in the center of the lily pads and is bloomed. It has nice lighting and is cool how the water is calm, and the colors are beautiful.

I like this picture a lot. I like how all the other colors are not as noticeable and the flower just sticks out. It also looks as if the surroundings of this picture are more blurred then the middle which makes the flower stick out even more. The lily pads around the flower add to the picture. Great job!

I like the effect of this photo. Most shots of flowers are intended to look warm and soft, but the harsh light reflecting off of the water and the sharp contrast make it look sharp and rather cold. It’s unique, and it makes this photo stand out from the many, many shots of flowers out there.
There are a couple of issues with this photo. The flower, the subject of this image, is small, which makes it seem too unimportant. It’s also in the center of the frame. This photo would work much better if you cropped it so that the flower was bigger and in the corner, following the rule of thirds. Also, the two flowers that are halfway out of the frame are distracting. I would recommend that you cut them out entirely or take another picture in which they are entirely in the frame. If you fix these problems, this could be a very good photo.

This photo looks like it would be sold in stores. It’s gorgeous. I would definitely hang this picture on my wall. The technical features used in this picture were aperture to get the lily pads in focus and the water blurry. This definitely fills the frame completely. The type of mood I get off of this picture is relaxed.

i really like this photo. I love that in the top right hand corner there are water rings from a drop or something. The colors are great. I like how the lily pads & flowers are bright colors & the water is dark.

I really like this photo because of the vivid colors. I like how you sharpened the image, it really makes the flowers and lily pads pop! I also like the ripple that is seen in the background, it adds a little something because the background isn't just still. This really makes me want to visit the Botanical Gardens. good job.

I really love how the water outlines the leaves and makes them stand out. The pink and green goes well together. And I also like how the bird is in the center of the picture. The background reflection of the building brings depth to the photo. Overall this was a great photo!

I like how the whole picture is in focus. The flower is the first thing you look at but because the rest of the picture is in focus your eyes wounder around the picture slightly. I think they also followed one off the rule of thirds that you either put the main object in the center or on one of the connecting lines.I also like the reflection in the water.

I like this photo. the water ripple in the picture just adds to the focus of the lily pads. Also i can clearly see an excellent good use of the rule of thirds. Also, the flower in the middle grabs your attention yet, it is not to distracting, and everything in this picture looks crisp and sharp. JRieves

This photo is really, really pretty. The flower and the lily pads on the water is a very creative idea for a picture. I also like the ripples in the water in the upper right-hand corner like something entered the water.

You centered the subject and the lighting is perfect. You have just the right amount of light reflecting off the water so that the flower isn’t washed out.

You incorporated many different colors, adding to the viewer’s enjoyment.

The entire picture is calming and vibrant yet subtle.

Great shot!

This is a beautiful picture. The rule of thirds was used wonderfully. The sharpness of the picture is great. It creates a clam feeling when looked at..

This is a great photo. The flowers are beautiful, but i wish i could see the tops of the flowers. The like how the water is dispersing in the back of the photo. The pads have great color and texture.

I really like this picture. I like how you can see the water movement in the background. I like how you can see the detail of the lily pads and on the flower in the center. I also liked the lighting on the piece the water is dark but the flower is the main focus so its more bright.

This is a very unique shot! I really like the reflections in the water as well as how still the water looks. I love the flower and I wouldn’t change a thing about it! The only thing that is a little distracting is the two flowers in the background. I would’ve liked to either see them completely in or out of the shot, but not cut off. However, I really like this shot and I think you did an incredible job!
