Flowers from a Fellow

contributed by L Townson

I took this photo in a random neighborhood off dunnavent drive off 280. The neighborhood was really nice but it had alot of flowers everywhere so i decided to shoot a pile of these flowers. I feel that it creates a sense of movement by how the flowers are flowing from one side to the other.

i think this shot lacks a true subject. i would guess that the flowers are the intended focal point but then some are in focus and others are blurred so it's not very clear where you want my eye to go. i think if you cropped off most of the left to where the subject became the hole in the flowers on the right with the flowers framing it, it would create more interest. also, the flowers framing the hole are in focus and the hole itself is blurry which would create depth within the shot. the only other major problem i have is that the shot seems overexposed and the whites seem a little blown out. it's kind of painful to look at for a long time..unlike yo face ;) but just tweek a couple things and i think you could turn this into a decent image.

I actually disagree with some of the above comments. They're a little harsh for a picture meant to be simplistic. I like how the flowers present a sense of repetition and they move the viewer's eye around the entire frame. I particularly like how the color contrast instantly becomes the main focus among the photo. If I could change one thing it would have to be the sharpness of the flowers. I think the picture would look great if the flowers really "popped". It really pops! I personally think the photo would be too overwhelming if there were too many flowers to crowd the frame. Great job overall!

I disagree with the top comment too. I really like this shot. I think the mixture of focused flowers and blurred flowers work really well. I know in most photographs the mixture would not work well together, but i think because of the subject is mixed it is okay. I really like the color scheme too. I like the natural beauty of the flowers. The lighting works really well for this photograph as well. I really like the photograph, and can't wait to see more of your contributions to the blog.

I agree with the top comment a little bit. I don't think it lacks a subject, I just think that because there isn't one main focus the photo is a little busy. I can see the main focus is in the right side, because the background on the left side is out of focus. My eye is really drawn from the top right side down to the bottom, following the flowers. I like it! good job.

I really like this picture. I love the simplicity of it. You did a great job of using depth of field. It really brings out the top flowers and makes them pop. I like that they’re all dispersed; it makes them look very wild. I think you did a wonderful job with this picture :)
