Local Color

Contributed by Mr. Myers

As a new feature on the blog I would like to contribute an image from time to time.

Here in the south the leaves are still on the trees for the most part, but they are falling fast. This beautiful tree was across the street from my house. I had not taken any photographs during the entire break and the sun was setting Sunday night. I was sitting on my porch and saw the late sun light up this white oak so I ran to grab my camera. I took this shot quickly on A mode with the aperture wide open. I was trying to catch the squirrel that had run away as I approached. (he is on the left of the trunk). The image I got was bright and I liked it but I did a bunch of work in post.
I did normal value and color adjustments and I sharpened the image but I also had to clone out a fence that was along the bottom and part of a building in the back woods. The top of the image was a bit blurry so I used a filtered version of the shot at the top to make it look intentional. I am not sure I am fond of this aspect. Anyway that is how I got to what you see. Thanks for any advice.

I really like this photo. I was like wow this is an amazing picture! I love how the picture is so vibrant. The colors make the picture stand out among the others. I think it was good that you cloned out the fence and house because it would have been distracting to the beautiful tree. I also like how the top of the tree is cut off to keep the viewers mind thinking. I think it might have looked a little better had the picture not been in the center. Overall amazing picture.

Wow! This is an amazing picture. I was looking at all the pictures and this picture stood out. The reason is because of all the vibrant colors. I love how the colors show how fall is down here in the south. I think that removing the fence and the house in the background were a great idea. If you left them it would be distracting from the beautiful sheet. I also like how you cut the top of the tree off to keep the viewers mind thinking where it ends. I think the picture could have been better if you kept it out of the center. Overall great amazing picture!

The two main things I love about this photo are the vibrant colors and how the background is clear and crisp without distracting from the subject. Normally I dislike pictures where the main subject is in the direct middle of the photo, but here it works.

I like this photo. This image has alot of details and color in it. By doing your normal and color adjustments it helped bring out more colors in the leaves and make the image look very colorful. I also like the sharpening as it helped bring out more distinct details in the tree like how you can see how the bark has came off the tree at the bottom of the tree. Overall I like what you did with this photo.

I was about to leave a comment on another photo until I scrolled down and saw this one. The color caught my eye immediately. The intensity and sharpness of the color is what makes this shot so good. I also like the filter that was put on the top of tree. This is a really good photo. -BS SPHS

This picture really caught my eye. The colors go so well together and it really portrays the mood of fall. The contrast and color balance are also well done. I usually don't like when the main object is centered right in the middle of the image. However, this exception goes very well.

I really like this shot. The positioning of the tree is good. I like how it is centered. The colors are a very well representation of the time of the year. I also like how the tree branches off and out of the photo showing its size. This is a very good photo, it really evokes the feeling of the Fall season.

I love the colors in this picture, they are all vibrant. It really captures the Autumn season. The tree in the center makes this image come together and it really stands out. I like how the center piece, the tree, stands out because it is the brightest color. This is a great photo.

This image stood out from the rest. The vibrant colors of the frame catch my attention the moment I saw it. This image also gives a very powerful sense of the season. This photo captures how pretty fall can be in Alabama. The positioning of the tree is in the center, to be the main focus. The leaves create a beautiful and magical appearance. The color of the leaves are very pretty.

I really enjoy looking at this photo! I like how the top starts off with a deep, vibrant red, and moves down to yellow, and finally green, and back to orange! I also like how the shifting colors obey the rule of thirds. The overall picture seems very warm. However, I'm not quite sure about that object in the bottom-right hand corner of the picture. You might have wanted to "heal" that out of there!

Mr. Myers, your picture is beautiful! It really shows the beauty of fall & the gorgeous landscaping of the south. I love the vibrant colors. I love the contrast between the tree being focused on and its background; there is no blending, we can obviously pick out your subject. I also think how the tree is centered, works very nicely in this photo especially since its not the whole tree, the top is cut off, giving it a different field/view.

Amazing! This is by far my favorite photo on here. It looks beautiful. I love how you captured exactly how fall is in the south. When I first looked at the picture I thought it looked like a painting. I like the squirrel running up the side of the tree. Taking out the fence and building was a smart choice. It would have been distracting. I feel like if you had the whole tree in the picture it would just be over-bearing. So I love that it's cropped tight. Just wow!! Awesome picture.

I really like this picture. The bright colors really make the picture. I love all the details of the tree. You can tell what your main subject is and the background really sets the picture as well. over all great picture.

I really like this picture. I like how it looks like the tree is kind of on fire. Great job on adjusting the color. It kind of looks like the tree is not real. i also like how it is more focused on the trunk of the tree rather than the whole entire tree. I really like it! Great job!

this picture is awesome! there is so much color it almost looks fake. i love the red and then goes to yellow and then green. i love how the tree takes up almost all the space and i like how you cut of the top of the tree.

In this photo, I like all the different colors that are being expressed. The lighting in this picture is great, I really like how sharp the colors are, and the exposure is perfect also. I wouldn’t change anything about this picture.

I love this. The colors are beautiful. it looks like a painting. I love how its like each layer is a different color. You didnt use rule of thirds, but the tree being in the middle looks good for this photo. Great Job!

i really like this. The colors are very very vivid. The only thing I dont like is the top of the tree, its just a little too dark

Alright old man, you still got game. I have to agree with dn, autumn has to be the most beautiful of the seasons (spring WISHES it had what autumn has). This reminds me of the small, possibly-maple tree in my front yard, the leaves of which had turned a perfect shade of red before they all fell off (which is kinda depressing to think about). While this photo captures the feel of autumn pretty well, there's something about the tree that looks a bit...unrealistic. The reason might be the blurriness you mentioned; the base certainly appears to be sharper than the top. I can't say for certain, but there also seems to be something off about the sharpness of the lower trunk. Despite this, the vivid colors work to the advantage of this photo, and it definitely passes in my book. Good work, Mr. M!

This picture almost looks like a painting the colors are so extreme. You can really tell that you edited it to make the colors show a lot more, which isn't a bad thing. i like how everything is perfectly aligned also, that the tree is right in the middle and there is equal space above and below it.

WOW! i love the bright colors in this photo. It looks amazing and sort of like a painting. I like how the tree is the main thing you focus on and you dont have to search the photo. The bright red stands out against the yellow and green in the background. Its very cool.

I think this is really pretty picture. I really like the amount of light exposure. I also like the tree being the main focus with all the other color around it.

I like that this picture is all in focus and I like the lighting in it because it makes the colors look really bright. I also like that it’s not too close up but it still fills in the frame.

This color in this picture jumps right off the screen. I love how the main focus of this picture is strongly presented and has a different color than the rest of the trees in the back ground. I also like how you used black to outline this picture and give it a little more attitude. Gives me the warm feeling of the fall season.
