Life on the AT

Contributed by L Hamby
I took this over spring break while on the AT. I adjusted the hue/saturation, then I did a curves adjustment. I turned it black and white, sharpened, and cropped it. Mr. Myers hurt my feelings because he couldn't believe I took this. (it was meant as a complement I am quite sure)

This picture is amazing. i couldn't believe that a student took this image. The shot of the picture looks very professional. This pictured is detailed you can see everything in there. I also like how turned it into white and black it looks more important. I like how the rocks and the fog have the same color White and i also like how the trees have that dark color. This picture is amazing i really like it :) !

This photo is really cool. I especially like the feeling that it gives off when you look at it. The black and white effect gives the shot a good atmosphere. I also like how the trees are growing pretty much in the middle of a big rock; it just seems like a unique thing to photograph. The only thing that I would change about the photo is the sky, it just seems kind of dull compared to the rest of the photo. But overall, this is a really good photo. -BS SPHS

Technically this image is superb, as what you want to be is in sharp focus as well as the black and white gives it a rustic sense. However, compositionally, the image doesn't have a focal point for your eye to locate. I would probably have zoomed in on the trees on top of the rock, or tried to have the rock lead your eye away. The clouds in the background do add a nice sense of depth but the lack of focal point leaves this image lacking.

I really like the mood that this pictures exhibits. It's somewhat dark and spooky. The sky looks cool. Good choice on making it black and white. I also like the perspective of this photo. It leads my eye up to focus on the sky which looks almost cottony to me. Overall, great shot and shame on Mr. Myers :)

The photo looks really good it looks like a pro took it. I love the black and white filter and how it sets off the trees and sky. I also just love the rock formation its very unique and something really special to find in Alabama good job. SPHS-AR

I absolutely love this picture! I love how the black and white makes it look like the sky is overcast. I also like how the cliff looks like it is leading up to the sky. I love how the trees are growing out of the rock also. (It would probably hurt to fall off of it.) Great job! :)

Wow this is really good. National Geographic magazine could use this; it looks so professional. Everything about it is fantastic. It's in focus, the lighting is really interesting, and I love the mist in the sky. It looks like it took hours to plan!

I love this picture. You don't see something like this in Alabama very often. Making it black and white and your other adjustments was very smart. This has to be one of the best photos I've seen in a while.

I really like this image it has a lot of character to it and i also think it was a good idea to have it in black and white. I also like the way the image keeps your eyes and makes you want to keep looking at it. i also like how the trees help your eye move around the image a little bit.

This picture is very well done. I love the black and white idea for this photo. It enhances detail in the sky as well as adding contrast in the image itself. Everything in this photo just worked perfectly. Great job!

First of all, I would like to say this is AmAzInG. It caught my eye the moment I saw it. I think you captured the fog perfectly and it really gives this shot some character. The detail in the rocks and trees is fantastic. I think it would look cool in color or as an HDR. Change those channels around ; ) and get the colors to really stand out. Without a doubt, this is my favorite on the blog so far.

This is a great shot. I also think this shot looks like it was done by a professional. I Like how you turned it black and white, it makes the sky look really nice. I also love the rock formation in your shot. It's also cool how the trees are growing out of the rocks. TW - SPHS

This photo is phenomenal! It just caught my attention the second i lay my eyes on it. Its so inspiring but at the same time calm and prosperous. You did a great job at making it black and white makes it seems as if the subject is unreachable, but mysterious. The trees were also great to take a shot at, i like how they are just popping out of the rock. It kind off seems to show that the rock is old but unique. The angle that the photo was taken in shows your creative genius. Not many of this types of rocks are found in Alabama making it more unique. The only thing i would say was not at its best was the sky it seems dull, but overall this photo was an amazing one. Keep up the great job! :D -MC SPHS

I really like this picture. The overall feel is amazing. The black and white is just great, that was a great decision. I really like how bright the rock looks compared to the trees. The fog looks amazing. I like how the fog matches the color of the rock. I like the details and how the tree is right in the middle of the rock. This is just an amazing photo. It is probably the best I've commented on. Great job.

I really like this photo. The black and white was a great choice. The contrast between the rock and the sky adds to the photo. The fog gives the photo and erie feeling. I like the details in the rock, and the trees growing from the rock. I like how the rock looks to be going into the sky. Overall this is a great photo.

I really like this picture. The black and white gives it a strong contrast which enhances the picture. The fact that the trees are on both sides moves the eye which I really like. It creates and upward movement which goes with the angle the picture was taken at. Also, the clouds have different amounts of grey in them that create a stormy atmosphere. Great Job!! Looks very professional.

First of all, I want to say this picture is simply AmAzInG! It caught my eye the moment I saw it. I think you captured the fog in the background perfectly. The other thing I like about this shot is the detail in the rocks and trees. I think it would look cool as an HDR or with some bright color. Change those channels around ; ) and get the color to really stand out. Anyways....Without a doubt my favorite on the blog so far.

life on the AT

this picture is very unique, when i look at it i feel like I'm watching a horror movie of some sort. i love the adjustments you made to get the colors to look the way they do. The trees bring a lot to the table in this picture because they bring character to rock.

Laura Hamby this is such an amazing picture!! The focus is perfect-the image is very crisp and clear. The angle it was taken from is great because it adds length to the rock, and uses the rule of thirds well. The contrast in the sky is great; there is a good balance of highlights and shadows. The picture is also great because it has emotion. It is almost scary, and sad. The exposure on the rock is good because it light enough to grab attention, but it isn't annoyingly bright. This is great.

It’s funny that your teacher gave you a hard time for this as a compliment but you deserve the props. I’m having a hard time figuring out what the background is but it’s mysterious nonetheless. I like this shot in black and white and how the large rock looks washed out. The “black” trees growing out of the cracks look really neat. I get the feel of hope in troubled times from this shot. It speaks a message which is hard to do when trying to capture a shot. Great work.

I didn't exactly give her a hard time about it. I saw it on her computer and thought it was a professional shot that from a photographer that she planned to emulate for an assignment. I am quite proud of her effort on it and think it turned out wonderfully.

I like the way the photo is in black and white. I don’t think that the picture would be as awesome if it was in color. Great Job!

This picture is so spooky and pretty at the same time. It’s almost like an image from a Halloween movie. You can see every detail on the rocks and it contrasts the texture of the trees and sky. I also love the angle of this picture. It makes it look like you’re climbing on the rocks.

This picture looks straight out of a scary movie because of the black and white and the dark sky which makes the picture come together with the trees and makes the picture look good. The focus is good in this picture.
