Charleston, SC

Contributed by A McComb

Over spring break I went to Charleston SC with some of my family. It's a really pretty city, and a great place to take pictures. I took this picture of a marina off the deck of a big boat. I'm zoomed out all the way (15mm), making the perspective a little warped. I think wide angled shots are always the most interesting. I used a lot of levels adjustments with layer masks to get the colors and contrast just how I wanted it.

Very well done! You got a very nice balance of sky and earth, with the tops of the sailboats being the horizon, not the actual horizon. Also, the boats as well as their varying shapes lead the eye around. Technically, you excellently pulled to colors of the sky out as well as balancing the contrast. Only one thought, and this is only speculation, but I think this shot might have been a very good one if it had been done as HDR. However, it looks great as is now!

This is a very nice shot. I really like the subject of the image. the boats are not only really cool the different shapes, sizes, and masts of them move your eye around very well. I also really like the sky. it seems like the only photos that really catch my eye are ones with nice skies. The sky is so cool it sort of doesn't even look real. I also like how the deep blue sky in the top of the picture fades into a white on the horizon. This is an awesome photo. Great Job.

Hey. Awesome picture as always. This one really has some cool aspects to it. To begin with, I like the blue/white color scheme of the picture, especially in the water because it has a really cool Monet touch using the blue. I agree that wide angled shots are interesting. Not also do they provide a cool perspective, but they have an accurate one. We don't really see in squares. The boats were the most awesome things in the piece. The variety in them is great, but the coolest thing about them was the way the masts were sticking up, as if they were needles poking the skies. The composition is cool and there is plenty of balance in the picture. Pure awesomeness.-RC, SPHS

Great shot! I like how about 3/4 of the photo is made up of sky. The clouds and the color of the sky are beautiful and crisp. The masts on the boats help lead your eye to the sky as well. Good shot. The colors are nice and make a relaxing picture.

i love this picture. i love how blue it is. i like how you got more of the sky in the picture than the water & that the boats stretch all the way across the bottom of the pic. good job.

Wow. Those clouds look gorgeous. They really stand out in this picture and the blue in the back make them look absolutely beautiful. My only thing is that the boats kinda kill the picture. but in all other ways this is a really good picture.

Amy, you have a truly beautiful photo here. Great job with it, and great job on the editing. You did everything right in this. A low horizon to show the depth and sheer amount of boats, nice colours, and the shadows under the boats. All of it is wonderful. Aside from the boat shadows, my favorite part is the water. It is so calm, serene, and a perfect shade of blue. Impeccable. PC-SPHS

This is a very beautiful picture. Its very crisp and clear to see. The water is really nice and the sky is gorgeous. I like that the sail pole thing lead your eyes up to the sky and also that the boats are lined up make you look at the next one kind of. Good use of rules of third. i guess? i dunnno. I like that you can see the horizon giving you depth of field. There is so much sky. The shadows of the boat also lead you to look at the water which is kind of cool. This is a really nice picture and it makes me wanna go ride on a boat. haha.

What a great shot! The colors are so refreshing and remind me of summer. Also the aesthetics from the boats masts are great because they draw the eye up to the sky and really take it into appreciation. I also love the angle of the shot! One suggestion may be to crop the sky just a bit! The complete panorama of the scene is good too!

This is a great picture. You really captured the feel of the moment in it, and also the lines from the boats masts lead your eyes upward to the clouds. Also, the great colors in the sky make it very nice. Great job with this picture.

This is probably my favorite photo of the entire year. It is absolutely gorgeous. The angle is what makes this whole shot unique in its own way. I cannot get over how good this picture is. I love the contrast with the clouds and sky. Also the boats add a lot of detail to the lower half of the shot. The color scheme flows extremely well together. Also, what you did with the levels and masks made this picture ten times better. It is such an interesting photo to look at, and talk about a really pretty day at sea! I think this should win the art show by a long shot.

Great picture! I love the crisp and clear blue color of the sky and the reflection of it in the water. I also like how most of the picture is sky. The masts of the boats help lead your eye to the sky too. I also like the variety of the boats in the picture. Good Job!

This picture is amazing! It was a really good decision to make the horizon line so low, giving the proper attention to the beauty of the sky and the clouds. The boats make interesting shapes that are extremely pleasing to the eye, with all of the vertical lines jutting upwards, it almost seems like they are pointing the viewer's attention to the wonderful sky. The colors are extremely vibrant, and this picture is just magnificent.

I really love how this picture has a general blue color to it. The clouds are so pretty in this shot with the vivid blue sky behind them. They’re so fluffy and randomly spaced. I also like how the masts of the all of the boats creep up into the horizon of the sky and contrast against the white sky. I like how the boats aren’t in a straight line along the bottom, they’re sort of angled. The boats are also reflecting in the water. This shot makes me want to go somewhere warm. Beautiful picture.

I love the bright blue colors in this photo!!! The colors are very intense and the contrast of the white clouds against the sky really make them show up well. I like how everything is in focus and the far horizon can be seen. This is a really nice photo and it reminds me of a sunny day out on the water. Very nice job!!!

this image is has a nice pallet of colors that it follows. With the clouds being really intricate. I like the detail shown from the top of the boats.

The lighting is perfect. The depth of field is large enough to keep everything in focus which allows the viewer to see all the sail boats and all the clouds.

I absolutely love this photograph! The white clouds contrast so well against the bright blue sky. I like how the boats leave reflections on the water. There is not really one center of interest, but the boats are all very visually interesting. Good job!

I like that most of the attention is to the sky when you look at it at first, then as you look some more and there are boats and it really matches the mood of the photo. It really reminds me of the beach or something like that. The lighting is perfect and it really contracts the blue everywhere. :)

I love this photo because it is not just centered on the boats. I like how there are leading lines that point towards the sky. The colors of the whole picture blend very well together and the clouds are shot great. This over all picture gives me a very calming feeling.
