Roy Roses

Contributed by M Tanner

This shot was taken at Roy Cemetery in Helena. The sky didn't turn out very well because it was so cloudy. I adjusted the saturation in the roses to give them a more antique look and I also ran a smart sharpen. Hope you like it!

This photo is actually good i know the sky doesn't look good because it was cloudy but even though the picture looks good the thing that i didn't like is the color of the flowers they look very grayish red, if it was pure red i think i will be better but it's fine i still love the photo. i also like how you focused on one part of the flower not all of them. Good job i really like it !

I really like this photo. Its nice to see a flower shot that is finally different. All the ones I ever see are just bright colors with bright colors, and then to top it off there are some more bright colors. This is great because all the colors are very dull and it does look antique. The depth of field is also really nice as you can't make out too much or too little of the background. Also, I think the cloudy gray sky in the picture is much better than a bright blue sky that would have offset the picture. Honestly, I can't think of too much to improve it. Great shot, I love it. This picture is insane. when i first saw it i could have sworn it wasnt a photo. This picture is really cool how a rose is something most people think to be pretty but this photo makes them appear to be sad and dull (which is awesome). the adjustments you did in photoshop really made this image awesome. i also really like the depth of field in this picture it really makes the main roses stand out. just as you said though the sky is not very good cause its so plain but it also adds to the image because it adds another since of dullness to it. overall this picture is extremely cool and keep up the awesome work.

Wow, I really like this picture. I especially love the way you adjusted the colors on photoshop. Your adjustment gives the picture an "old time" feel. I also love the lighting in this pic. I really cannot find any noticeable flaws. Overall, a very good photo.

I really like this photo, even though it was shot during a cloudy day. The color of the rose is fantastic, I really love how it is not the bright red everyone expects. Great job focusing on the flower, and I like how the stems are a little blurry, it adds more feeling to the photo! Great job!

I'm interested in the faded color- antiquity- in this shot, as well as the old feeling that the effect gives it. However, I think the focus might have been a tad bit off- the leaf seems to be the sharpest part, instead of the rosebud. That aside, I must commend you on the perfect blur that can be seen in the background, so overall, i believe that the lower aperture really did this photograph justice!

I love the color of the rose. Its such a nice color. The petals and leaves aren't a bright color which i love and it kind of gives off this gloomy feeling. Or a feeling likes its raining but its not. You can tell theres depth of field by how blurry the leaves and flowers are in the background. I like how the flower is kind of coming out of the corner. The rose in the top right corner sure leads your eyes down to the main rose. This is really a nice photo.

This is nice. I've always been a fan of flower photos so this is right up my ally. I love the unsaturatedness of the photo and how the colors appear dull. It makes the photo a bit eerie which i like. good job.

I really like the saturation of this picture, it really gives the subject a unique feel. The subject is also greatly focused, i really like what you did here! Good job

I really like how this photo looks. The colors are perfect for that antique look. I like that only one rose is mainly in focus and everything else is either out of focus or only partially in focus.

I think this photo is VERY appealing. I love the antique look that you went with and I think it works well with the sky even though its blurred due to the weather. The composition is good and I love how you can see so many details into the roses. -SPHSKM

I really like the vintage feel of this picture. The sky is a little bit too bland for my taste though. It's got a really great crop and focus. All in all, great picture.

This is a really interesting photograph. The saturation being toned down along with the cloudy sky gives the photo a gloomy, antique look. The look is fitting given that this pictures was taken at a cemetery. The rose being the subject is clear and the background being blurry help to accentuate the rose and make for an overall very nice picture.

This photo is actually good i know the sky doesn't look good because it was cloudy but even though the picture looks good the thing that i like the most is the color of the flowers they look very grayish red all the flowers i have seen so far are pure red bu it's good to see a different color on the flower and i think that color made the picture valuable. i also like how you focused on one part of the flower not all of them. Good job i really like it !

I know it has been said several times already, but I love the color of the roses. However, the pair of roses in the background draw the eye away from the ones in front a little. It is good that these background roses are not in focus, but their redness will always stand out against the greenery around them (except for someone with red/green color blindness, but that's hardly relevant). Maybe you could have remedied this by putting everything but the roses in the front in B/W. Either way, I say the whitewashed sky would fit in the photo; it sorta completes the reserved "antique" look. Overall, this is a great image.

I really like this photo, but then again, I;m a sucker for that desaturated look. The colors are perfect and the reds and greens work really well together. And had you gotten a blue sky, I think it would actually detract from the photo, so I think having an overexposed sky actually works for this photo. Great job!

I think this picture is great, even though I like this picture there are somethings that I don't like. The one thing that I don't like is the color of flower.Because the color of the flower is grayish red, I looks unnatural.

I love this photo. I think it is very beautiful. I like how the the color of the rose matches the mood of the gray gloomy sky. The color makes the rose look more frail and delicate.

This picture is very unique and pretty. It shows that flowers do not always have to be bright and cheery. This flower makes me think of sad times. I like how the flower matches the gloomy background, they balance each other out. It would be odd having this background with a bright colored rose.

I love how the color changed a modern rose in to a older antique, almost a 60's look. The picture's clear with the background of blurriness which adds an extreme look. The color of the rose is an unrealistic color and I love it! The rose plus the color gives it depressing image but since it is a rose i also gives the image a loving mood!

This picture has a variety of colors and has good contrast between the focused purple-ish flower and the green faded out of focus leaves in the background. The picture defies some of the rules of foreground and background in that it has the background images below the foreground flower.

This is such a pretty picture. I like how the subject is in focus and using the rule of thirds. The depth of field is used perfectly with the other roses in the background being blurry. I think the picture would have been better if the background was in a black and white scale and the main flower in the normal color. -SPHS, KS

This photo is absolutely gorgeous I like how the grayness of the sky is contrasting with the color of the roses, black and white was a good choice for this photo, I enjoy looking at it.

I really like this picture because I love how in focus it is and I love the off color of the roses, it makes them look really nice. The element used here depth of field because the picture looks really nice how the roses in front are in focus and it slowly gets out of focus.
