Ring Reflection

Contributed by D Meadows

This shot was for the circles assignment and was on my kitchen table. It was shot with the sun lighting directly through the window at dusk, but I toned down the levels a lot to remove the brightness as well as using a black and white adjustment on it.

This photo is exquisite. The black and white adjustment was just the right thing to set off the balance of this photo. A.S.-SPHS

I like how it is a simple picture. The light shines straight through the ring which gives a good reflection on to the table. Also doing it in black and white makes it compliment the picture setting.

I like the soft lighting. I like that it enhances the grain and ridges in the wood. I like the shadow and effect of the reflection on the wood. I think that the photo looks like a good industrial shot.

I think this is a very interesting photo. I like the contrast between the ring and the table. The metal appears to heavy and dark, while the wood seems light and airy. The lighting comes across as very soft. There is an almost water-like reflection of light coming off of the table. > MH SPHS

I really love the way this image is focused on just the center of the frame. The focus on everything else is a lot softer and sort of blurred. The reflection makes this picture look really interesting and adds some character. It almost seems like the ring is in motion, which makes me wonder if it was.

Simple but sweet, interesting balance of lighting. The table adds to the the effect that is falling through almost from light to darkness.

I really like this picture. When I first looked at it I automatically thought about marriage.I imagined someone being fed up with his or her spouse and finally leaving them and their ring. I also like how you adjusted the lighting. It made it have a greater dramatic appeal. Good job.

This is an excellent shot David. I love the focus on the ring and part of the reflection. The black and white adjustment adds even more to the overall effect. I do have one question. Did you purposefully focus on a line down the center of the table?

I like this picture. The way the light hits the ring and the table, casting just the right shadow under the ring. I think that the black and white makes the picture come more to life, giving it a deeper look than if the picture was shot in color.

I think that this shot is really original and has good quality but it would be better to me if it was in bolder colors. The shot is borderline black and white because the colors are so dark. The image itself does not bring out any certain emotion. I still think this image is a good shot.

I really like how the picture is just simple and not too much, changing the color to the black and white was a great idea.

I really like the color scheme. i like how it sets the mood and makes me think. i also like the reflection of the ring.

I like how the ring is not in the center of the picture. It is off to the right just a little. I also like the reflection of the table and how the ring is focused and everything else is blurred.

I love the reflection in this picture, and I think that black and white was the best choice. Having the ring a little off center makes it feel like it might have a meaning. The light reflecting off the table and making the silhouette of the ring is a great look. This photo has a mood that the ring might be of some importance.

The contrast of black and white makes the piece look incredible. Since there is not alot going on in the image the viewer's eyes move directly to the ring and its reflection. Nice job (: A.M - SPHS

I really like this picture. I like the soft/black & white lighting. The darkness of the ring really makes it stand out, and makes it a very interesting piece of the photo. I also like how the ring isn't in the middle of the photo, it's a little to the right.

David, I really like this photo. I love the reflection of the ring in the table too. As well as the reflection, I really enjoy looking at the texture of the table. The image presents kind of a gloomy aura that could be interpreted several different ways. However, I believe I've seen this exact shot in a Lord of the Rings movie so I'm not sure where your motivation came from. Other that, great job with this and I look forward to seeing more from you. I like this picture becauseit looks really cool because it is in black and white. I also like how the light is hitting the table making it a cool shadow

This picture could have been taken a little better. I say this because of the reflection of the ring on the table is not really out of focus. I think you have the concept down but could be taken a little better.

I like how this picture has very neutral colors, because it makes the reflection of the ring's reflection stand out even more. It is cool how the reflection of the ring is almost as pure as it would be if the ring was against a mirror. sphs

Circles are always a great subject, the shadow is so dark that it looks as if there is an arch holding the ring up.
