Watch Tower

Contributed by R Correa

I took this picture on my summer trip to Destin, Fl. As I was walking along an isolated part of the beach, I saw this really cool but dangerous looking bird. So I took a ton of pictures for it. I edited it using either curves or B&W(think it was black and white) and a tad of hue/saturation. It really made the clouds pop out more, resulting in a dangerous bird looking out for something. Anyways, please comment. I know there's more left to do.

First off, this picture is brilliant. The sky seems to become stormy right around the subject, and peaceful as it moves away. The contrast between the bird and the background really helps to focus on the bird. The black and white adds a very mysterious mood to the picture, and I have this dying curiosity to know what the bird is watching for. Is it afraid of something, or is it hunting something? Very well done.

This picture is amazing. It really makes me curious as to what the bird is looking for. The way its standing straight up makes it look like it's ready to attack if something gets too close. The black and white theme to the photo also gives me the feeling that something bad is about to happen. The rule of thirds really shows in this photo and I think it is perfect. - PT-SPHS

This is a very strong photograph. The entire shot has nice balance. The sky is soft while the rocks appear jagged. I would have liked the photo better if the horizon wasn't right in the middle of the page. It would have been more eye catching to see either more sky and less rock or more rock and less sky. While the background is interesting, it does not take away from the subject. Overall, this is very good work. >MH SPHS

This picture is awesome. I like the black and white coloring. I also like how the rocks the bird is standing on look like mountains, making the bird look gigantic (if you choose to look at the rocks like they're mountains). I like the whole rule of thirds thing going on, with the crane on the third instead of centered. Very good job!

This photo definitely has some very strong emotion. I love that it is in black and white because it honestly wouldn't have look as visually stunning in color. the clouds are what really caught my attention; they add an interesting texture to the sky. This is such an amazing photograph.

I love this picture! The bird is beautiful and mysterious and that really intrigues me. The black and white really adds a positive effect to the picture. If i could say one thing to make a little better, i would say that it might also look good if the bird was a little more off center. Not much but just a little. It's still a great pic!

I agree, the black and white really makes the bird stand out against the sky. The rocks fit in the frame perfectly, and the sky looks very strong and eerie - it gives the bird more of a presence in the picture. I would have liked to see the little water stream to the left of the bird go away, it's too bright and distracts from the bird, but the picture is done really nicely.

I look at this picture and think its amazing. The tall bird standing up over the rocks gives this picture an interesting point of view. I would have liked to see this in color. In my opinion it may have looked more interesting with the color of the bird, rocks, and sky contrasting together.A.M. - SPHS

I like the way this picture is in black and white. It looks more interesting with the bird in this pic. I also like the way the sky looks, it looks like it is about to storm. Great Picture

I like the bird in this picture, it looks very statuesque. The black and white color of this photo helps make the bird look as though it were made of stone. This picture is pretty cool; my only suggestion would be to have moved to the right a little bit so that the bird was more to the left. I think it would look just that much better if it were off centered a bit more.

This photo is extremely good. I love how the lack of color provides for a great focus on the bird. This photo also exhibits the rule of thirds. The bird is in the top left third and this a great spot for your subject. Overall I think that you did a great job. ATP SPHS

I really like this picture! I love the black and white effect for pictures, especially for this shot! Beach pictures are amazing to me and this picture really caught my eye, I love how its only one bird with many rocks and you can somewhat see the beach in the background! Great picture! :)

Really good job on this picture! The black and white was a perfect choice, and the clouds stand out just enough to add to the picture while not taking away from the focus on the bird. My only suggestion is that you may want to place the horizon a little bit lower, and perhaps move the bird a little more off-center. Overall, this picture is fantastic, and you did a good job making sure that the viewer's eye goes straight to the bird, and the rocks and clouds don't clutter the picture.

This is a great picture! I love the black and white effect. The sky looks really cool from the viewpoint that the photo is taken from. Also, the bird is nicely placed using the rule of thirds. The bird gives a feeling of watchfulness. Overall great photo :)

So this picture has a great example of focal point andi like how the herring is right justified and the high rises can barey peak over tyhe natural rocks that are also man made if u know the landscape.

This picture is amazing, I really like the effect that the clouds have on this picture. The way the color of the clouds varies really makes the bird a strong feature. The fact that the bird is to the left of the picture really makes the photo an interesting one. Great job!

This picture is excellent, especially the way you edited it. I saw the original of this photo and it was plain and boring but just changing the photo to black and white really makes everything pop. Although it is the same colors you get a real sense of the subject (the bird) looking or hunting for something. I love the fact that you have a subject but at the same time you can take your eye away from that for a second and see the sky scrapers in the background right behind the rocks. Excellent photograph.

This picture is amazing. I really love this picture. I love the background and how it connects to the rest of the picture. It a really thinking picture, because it making me wonder what the bird is searching for or looking at or is it lost and trying to find his or her home.

I think this picture tells alot about the beach front and how many people would view it when walking by the ocean scene. The clouds get alot of depth in the photo and really shows its unique character by how much of the rocks and the bird are involved.

I Like this because the bird that is on the rock is were your eyes automatically go to. The bird isn’t exactly in the middle of the picture which gives it some good depth. The lighting seems a little dark but that may just be because it is a black and white picture.

I really like bird in this picture; it’s original and exotic. I also like the rock and the frame that you shot the picture in. the way you edited the picture really makes the overall shot look like a drawing or something. I really like that you shot it in black and white as well. Over all I really like the picture.
