The Dark Chair

Contributed by D Stuckey

I took this at Eckerd College when I was exploring. It was funny because I found this little cove and a random chair was in the water. I cropped it and messed with the curves.

Fun and funny image. It reminds me of those bugs that skate on the water...water skaters. I think I would crop it a little on the left and I might consider going b/w since it is almost there already.

i like this image, it is very creative. who would have thought to put a chair in the water. i where this image is shot with the leaves on the right. it balances the chair out. i agree with mr. myers that it should be cropped, but overall it is a good photo.

Dana, I really like this picture. It has an aura of mystery to it making the viewer wonder what went on here. The dark and gloomy colors and shadows also help in the development of the mood. Good work using the rule of thirds and I look forward to seeing more from you. PT-SPHS

I like the mystery of this picture. It makes me question what went on here. I think it would have been more efficient if the chair was more toward the top left corner. I also like the color in this picture because it’s a little bit dark but it fits the mood, which can be kind of lonely.

This is a great photo. I like the reflections in the water and the place where you took the photo. I agree that the cropping could be a bit better but with the current crop you seem to be following the rule of thirds by putting the chair in one of the points of interest. I also like the color provided by the water and the leaves but I do think it would be interesting to see this photo in black and white. Good job. ATP SPHS

Nice photo! It is pretty random that there was just a chair sitting in the water. I like how you took the shot as the water was coming forward. The lighting is also nice, how its so light on the left side and darker on the right side. The shadow of tree i think adds to the photo. Good picture!

This is a really good picture. i like how you can see the reflection of the chair in the water, as well as the reflection of the bush on the right. I agree with Mr. Myers about cropping the picture on the left because there is a little negative space that has nothing in it. But, I disagree with him about the color, I like the fact that it is not in black and white. Over all it was a good picture.

This image is very pretty. It reminds me of the beach in Florida.
I love how dark the chair is sitting in the waters and having the reflection of it shining off of the waves.
I also think cropping just a bit of the left side would be helpful.

This picture gives me a really depressed and dreary felling. Something about the lone chair out in the water make me sad. I like the shadowing that was done here, it adds to the feeling and mood of the entire shot. I also like how the lights get brighter off into the distance; it gives hope to the lonely chair.

I love the simpleness of this photo. It just shows that you don’t need much to make a photograph interesting. I think the waves rolling in add a lot to the photo, and make it seem like the chair is just floating out into the water. Great Photo and great subject.

Awesome picture. I can feel the emotion behind the picture and it almost leaves me depressed. It's cool that all this can be felt just by taking a picture of an empty chair. Great picture.

This is a fantastic subject that you captured! Good call on the angle and making sure that you did not keep the chair too centered - I do agree with Mr. Meyers when he suggests making it black and white. Overall, however, great job on capturing a weird and thought-provoking moment.

In this picture I can tell that the focus of the picture is the chair in the water. It is also in the rule of thirds since it is not right in the middle of the picture but more off the left. I like how there is some shadows of towards the right of the frame and then where the chair is there is more light.

I really like how the chair is out in the water and you can only see the outline of the chair. I also like the color and the ripples of the water.
The lighting needs a little work. The water looks really good except in the right edge where it is really dark.

I really like the color of the water in this. It looks so pure and calm. I also like that the chair and the part of the bush is dark so we only focus on the water. The shadows in the water give it some more depth too. VD-ERHS

I really like the dark effect on this picture. I also like the tree to the right in the photo, it adds to the effect of the chair. I also like how the waves are coming as the photo was taken. Great job, I love this picture! :)

When i look at this photo i imagine myself in the chair and that really makes this picture so real. I do like the balance of the tree and reflection of it in the water. The reflection of the chair in the water makes it look really skewed and almost like it disappearing towards the shore.

I really like this picture! It's just fun all over. Good work on the rule of thirds. And I like the color for some reason, too. Good cropping as well.
