Contributed by T Williams Took this photo for my high key assignment. I took the overexposed image and ran a black/white filter over it.

The way the subject is presented is cool because the mouth is not shown so she could be happy or sad with this expression. I also like the way that this is black and white. BF SPHS
I really like this photo because of the emotion it shows. The eyes are looking at the exactly right angle to make someone want to know what there looking at, and why its making them show a type of sadness in there face. Good job with the filter and brightness. Love it. - SPHS W.H.
I really like this picture because it almost doesn't look like a photo. The color is black and white so it almost looks like a sketch. It doesn't have that digital feel to it that many photos do today. I feel like there maybe too much light on her nose, which causes the natural lines of the face to be whited out, but it almost looks deliberate, so it doesn't take away from the photo. The eyes turned out really good. They're not looking directly at the camera, which gives it a sense of depth.
It almost looks like a hand-drawn portrait, which makes for a very interesting photo. The subject also adds a lot to the shot - it makes me wonder what they're looking at, how do they feel about it, etc. Very nice. -JB SPHS
This is a really cool looking photo. Doing a black/white filter was a good idea. It made the the image more impressive, almost as if the image was hand-drawn.
This picture is really cool! I like how the subject is not looking at the camera. I also really like the effects that you used. The picture almost looks like a drawing. -KB SPHS
This picture looks really cool with all the added effects you put into it. I think if you were not to all the effects it would not be an interesting shot. I like how the subject is looking away from the camera, it leads eye to the corner instead of straight on. I really like the wash out outcome; it gives the picture a deeper emotion. -JB ERHS
I didn't particularly like this photo, and feel like it can improve in many ways. The first thing I notice about this photo is the intense pure white that is very unappealing to my eye. Using extreme highlights like these can be very effective in conveying mood, but I don't think it was used properly here. The intense highlights begin to ruin the image because it removes the detail from the nose. I would have run a levels adjustment to at least make the white areas a very light gray so that it doesn't hurt the eyes to look at.
I also would question the crop of the photo and ask why the subject's mouth was not included? I think that just using the eyes is a very cliche picture and that adding a full face with a little more background could do much more for the image and conveying the emotion you were aiming for.
On the positive, I do completely agree that making this a monochromatic picture was a superb decision. I think that color would have absolutely ruined the image.

Very nice photo overall but I'm a little on the edge about how bright it looks. Maybe a bit more shadow on the face might stand out more. I love the expression on the face. Good job. AO SPHS
This high school photoblog is the product of the photography students at Spain Park High School in Hoover, Al.
Students take turns posting one of their images along with a brief explanation each school day. The students also trade critiques with their peers from other schools around the country (see high school blog links below).
We are always looking to expand our participating schools. If your photography program starts a blog, email Mr. Myers so he can add your link to our growing list. emyers@hoover.k12.al.us
