Pigeon Kicker

Contributed by J O'Neil

This picture was taken in Paris outside of Notre Dame. I got bored of taking pictures of all the sights and monuments so I decided to take pictures of the people who I find to be much more interesting anyway. I got some cool shots but this one stuck out. I didn't really think it needed any editing.

I think its really funny that she looks like she's kicking the pigeon. I like that you didn't have to do anything to the picture the background is out of focus and darker and the main subject is bright and clear.

I like this picture mainly because of the action in the shot. Even though there are people in the background, my eyes are still drawn to the girl and the bird that is in mid flight. The action, the girl looking like she's kicking a bird, is what draws me to this photo.

Great picture! The focus is perfect. Pigeon Kicker sounds like an awesome band name, as well as a perfect title for this picture. In your description, you said that you were tired of taking pictures of sights and monuments, and decided to take pictures of people instead. I find this humorous, because your subject is standing on a pedestal of a sort with the concrete.

Good job!

Jack, I really like this picture. It is very funny but at the same time, very wrong. It seems like the cute pink outfit the girl is wearing doesn't really fit her. Maybe black is more her style. But anyways, I really like the how the focus is on the girl and the background is blurred. Also, her head is positioned perfectly in the top left quadrant. The pigeon flapping its wings looks like it has truly been kicked. Great photo. PT-SPHS

I really like this picture; it makes me laugh. I like how the people in the background are kind of blurred and the little girl is in focus. The girl's white and pink outfit creates a contrast with the deeper colors behind her, so she really stands out. It is interesting how this photo catches the girl in motion and you can tell what she is doing.

I really love the lighting in this one. The way the hedges focus around the main focus, The Child and the pigeon. I also like how the people in the background are blurred and darkened so that they are pushed further back. This picture is the embodiment of what its like to be a child. Carefree and happy... even if it means a bird is hurt here and there =) A.M - SPHS

Well knowing the person who posted this picture, he would take picture like this. Its an extremely funny picture. The way the girl and the pigeon on focus is really good. But, all I can say is its a really funny picture at the perfect timing.

I think this picture is great. The lighting is perfect and that subject is entertaining. As a child, I used to scare seagulls at the beach. Thanks for the memory and keep up the good work :)

I like how the little girl is the only one in the sun and everyone else that is off into the distance is blue. The shutter speed is great as well because it shows the action of the little girl scaring away the bird without the picture needing to be blurry.

I LIKE HOW IT LOOKS IT JUST LOOKS SO NATURAL. YOU CAN TELL WHO'S THE FOCUS. I LIKE HOW THE BACKGROUND LOOKS BLURRY AND THE GIRL LOOKS SO CLEAR. IT ALSO LOOKS REALLY INTERESTING BECAUSE THE SUN IS ON HER AND THE PEOPLE BEHIND ARE IN THE SHADE.

I just think this picture is great. I like the colors in this picture and i also like the people that are in the back but i am still focused on the girl. The little girl looks a little mean to me.

I really like this picture. The humor appeal in it is simple and apparent - this is a good example of finding strange moments and taking good photography with them. Good job on finding something different and out of the ordinary or somewhat bizarre.

This picture makes me smile. It reminds me of how it used to be like as a child with not a care. The depth of field is good, I like how it’s a big crowd of people in the background, it suits the picture. I like the bird, how it’s almost like the girl is going to kick it. Good job at getting the bird totally in focus.

Nice picture! I love how you captured this simple moment. Priceless The colors are wonderful. Because this is not posed the background could not be helped, but because it is out of focus and dark it works will.

In the moment shots are really interesting. The clarity is excellent and the cropping of the picture is really well done. The use of thirds is well placed and the lighting is nice and clear.

I agree with you that you didn't need to edit this picture. I like the background with the people out of focus! I also love that it looks like she is kicking the pigeons, but she really didn't hopefully :-). I like how the main focal point is bright and crisp looking! Good job on this photo. I think you had the right idea about taking pictures of people instead of the monuments. :-)

This is a really good photo, I like how this person got the girl in mid kick and you can see the pigeon start to fly off, the lighting was just right for this photo single center of interest was used here.
