Your Friendly Department Store

Contributed by R Collier

This was one of the first pictures I took while exploring downtown and messing with my camera. I came around a corner and saw this lot with the worn paint and thought it would make a cool picture - I changed the color balance, hue and saturation just a little, upped the contrast and then ran a photo exposure layer and a levels layer to darken it down and bring out the colors.

I like this picture beacuse it looks very vintage and timeless. It kind of takes you back to a place you’d expect find in history books.

There’s a nice focal point in the space above what could be considered the subject of the picture – the door and window – it naturally draws the eye and is also a lovely piece of old architecture. I really like the shot in general, it gives the photo this antique feeling that’s very enjoyable.

This is an awesome picture. The texture of the bricks really works the age, and the coloring is simply astounding. I think the composition is also a major positive, with the yieldings sign and door positioned in their corners.

I really like what you did with the color in this! I especially like the orange color near the door. The only thing that bothers me is that, when you look more closely you can kind of tell that the red has been messed with. It just looks a little altered, and it seems like you brought that out a little too much.
Other than that, I really really like this photo~

This is a really cool picture. I love the worn out look, everything fits well. I also like how the brick wall and street light stands out. Continue with the good work. sphs e.w.

This is a really neat photo! I love the faded bricks which add to the "old time" look. I also like how the fading Yeilding's sign gives the shot a title since it is at the top and off center. Great job with the colors and lighting! AF SPHS

I really like this picture. It looks very old-timey. It almost looks like a cartoon. Very creative.

I love anything vintage so naturally this image caught my eye. I really like the variety of oranges and reds of the brick, it gives a kind of subtle interest to the image. Plus the contrast really brings out the deeper colors. Nice job.

I love how you managed to get the old buildings, but then off to the side it shows the new buildings right next to it.

Comment: I like this picture because it looks like it was taken from a shot in a movie or TV show. I like how it shows the signs on the building and how the paints fading and how it looks like its been there for along time.

I like the use of angles and lines in this image. Also I love how the variety of focal points allows the eye to jump around. I also like how the majority of the dark space is located in the window of the building. Great pic ross!
