Look Down

Contributed By J Bryan

I took this picture while visiting my uncle's grave at Jefferson Memorial; they have lots of marble statues and monuments that photograph well. I adjusted the curves and dodged/burned on the face a little to get stronger contrast.

I am a fan of how real this picture looks. And like you made it black and white but it must be the true colors. I also like how you put the face in the upper right corner so it had somewhere to be looking. This picture seems very somber but is so striking and beautiful.

When I first looked at this, I thought it was a drawing at first. I like the way the lighting looks in this picture. The light parts are light, and the dark parts are dark when they need to be. This picture is as close to perfect as I can see.

I thought this image was a sketch at first. I really like the textured look it has to it. It's a really cool angle as well, which makes the mood of the image completely change.

Wow, this looks like a drawing! i love the black and white contrast of this photo but especially the lines. The thin faded lines create a smooth texture that resembles a grave, but the lines created by thorns are harsh creating a enduring contrast.I LOVE this photograph!

This picture has very good contrast. I like the texture as well, and i like how the lines follow where his eyes lead too. It has a very interesting composition that makes the picture unique.

I like how this marble statue looks like a painting but so realistic. It almost looks as if he is looking down at you. It's a kind of depressing picture, yet hopeful. Good job!

This is an outstanding photo. I really thought that this was a drawing that you took a picture of! Having been to my fair shares of funerals and seeing burials. I can relate to the picture and the kind of gloomy feeling this photo casts out to the viewer. This picture really speaks to the viewer if they have the same experiences.

I love how the lighter areas contrast with the darker ones. The detail in the statue really adds to the picture. SB SPHS

love this because it almost looks like a sketch or rough drawing. Whatever editing you did looks great! The contrast from black to white is very clear and crisp with out a lot of smudgy or blurred area. Great Job!

This is a good photograph, if just for the composition. The dodge/burn also worked well for the contrast, though I feel that you should have dodged his forehead a little more, because it seems like the face was burned too far.

This is one of my favorite pictures of all of your submissions. I really love the texture and contrasting black/whites on the statue, and you definitely captured the emotion of the statue. Great job on this! - Ross, SPHS

I love this picture. The way it almost looks like he is fading away. It also looks like a drawing. You did a really good job!

The orange hue of the photo adds a great effect to the overall image, and the lighting balance is just right. Great use of lines, drawing the eyes toward the middle as the tracks get farther away. Interesting choice of location, especially since I haven't seen many people balance on train tracks! Nice photo! - AF SPHS

I love how this picture looks almost as if it is a drawling. I like how you didn’t get the whole head in the shot and you wonder what it is he is looking down at.

I do like it, but there's also something off-putting about it.. it looks a little too two-dimensional to me. I don't think there's anything wrong with the statue itself, but the background just seems a little flat, I guess.

Without any surrounding items (like grass), this shot looks like a really good charcoal sketch. I actually think that it's pretty neat that this 3D color object turned out the way it did! I like the line that is created by the direction of the eyes, and the strong contrast helps. Great photo! - AF SPHS

I really love this photo. At first I thought this was a painting or drawing. I don’t like how the statues eyes are looking down into oblivion. I liked how you added a bit to the photo which makes it look even better. Good job!

The statue is a great figure for a grave memorials. With Jesus looking down, to me, symbolizes his awaiting for the new angels to join him, though at the same time a little sad about a lost life that causes depression to another.

I like how this photo looks more like a drawing than a photo. I also like how the face is looking away from of us. It gives it somewhat of a solemn look. I also love the contrast and color of this photo. Good job.
