Onward and Upwards

Contributed by M Silas

Again, I had a long day at Moss Rock. I really liked the gnarled appearance of this tree. Even though it's practically dead, it stands strong and tall. I guess it just kind of inspired me. I cropped it a little and slightly adjusted the curves.

This picture is pretty well-done. The trunk of the tree looks unnecessarily dark at the bottom, but I’m probably nit-picking. Besides that, the rest of the picture is nicely done, and I like the colors.

I like this picture because it incorporates a different angles then we are used to seeing. It’s straight up and the lighting makes it so bright and joyful. I like it.

This picture has very good leading lines. Also I love the camera angle making the tree seem even more towering. The tree is also placed very well in the photo.

This is a great photo. I love the angle that the tree is going upwards at and how it transitions from dark in the shadow to bright in the light. Good shot! SB SPHS

What a great photo! Your eye follows the line the tree creates. It brings your eye from the dark bottom of the tree to the bright sky. The colors are great and compliment the photo well.

This is a very beautiful picture. The rule of thirds is applied very nicely with the tree in this picture. The leaves make for a nice background. However, I do believe the contrast between the trunk and sky is a little too great, but overall, good job. SL at SPHS

The gnarled tree seems to be a good idea. Even if the tree itself looks as if doesn't have any leaves, the foliage surrounding to go up into the sky with it adds well.

Good composition and motion. the blue and green almost melt together and form a painting, like it's not supposed to look real. The only minor problem is the shadow at the bottom of the tree. If you had edited the lighting, I think it would have looked much better.

I like the feel the tree gives with its branches. They are very angular.

Nice picture, I think this is one of your best submissions. I have tried to do a photo like this, but haven't been able to do it as well - you did a great job of capturing the depth and size of the tree. The picture really moves the eye. Some of the treetops clutter the picture a bit - perhaps you could have cropped it some more? - but it's still a great picture. -Ross, SPHS

This picture is a little scary. I could see this in a movie if it was black and whit. It reminds me of nightmare before christmas. I like the shadows in the bottom.

This is a great photo, but all the shadow at the bottom bugs me a little too. I realize that wasn't really something you could do anything about though! The colors are really nice - vibrant, just the way I like them.

I like how your eyes automatically follow the line of the tree. It creates a good illusion of depth. I also like the colors of the leaves contrasted against the sky. It creates a interesting texture.

I love the leading lines that this creates. It brings you straight up to the top of the tree. The colors are beautiful as well.
