Gray Liberty

Contributed by S Moffett

I took this picture over the weekend at Liberty Park. Since today is Sept 11th, I thought it would be appropriate to take a patriotic picture. I tried to take the picture so the sunlight would be shinning through the tree, but it made a weird blurry thing instead. I also thought it looked better in black and white.

there doesnt really seem to be a focal point of interest. i can see the idea you had but the execution didnt work. like you said the lighting was not what you wanted and in turn the depth of field has been lost. all the main subjects are about the same size. there is no dominant feature. I think the picture is ok but it is lacking a defined composition.

The statue and the open sky line up very nicely, and the clouds add interest to the photo. But beyond that, I'd have to agree that the execution was not on point. The entire right side of the photo is more of a distraction than a point of interest, and the angle that the shot was taken from doesn't work for me.

i like this picture and i think it was a great idea, but i think there could havev been a better focal point, as it was already said. nothing really led my eye around the photo and the point that you said was blurry just kind of throws things off, if you ask me. i like your idea, maybe you can go back and try to focus better on something or at a better angle, perhaps. =]

This is one photo that could benefit from a better lens. If you had a telephoto lens you could move you camera further from the subject thus obtaining a better camera angle. There are probably a lot more decent compositions from that vantage point. I have not been to Liberty Park so I don't know if you had any better camera angles available, the statue is quite high above so I would think you would have to be fairly far away to get a better angle. I do like your including the flag and some vegetation. I am not sure about the B/W format, I think a RW&B flag is more patriotic.

this is a nice picture. it's somewhat depressing and sad... but i like it that way, considering the date you posted it. i think you should've contrasted the black and white more, but other than that i like this shot.
