Complimentary

Contributed by A Garver

I took this picture in our studio with a Nikon SLR camera. We were working with flowers and I wanted to capture an interesting macro shot that wasnt your typical flower photograph. This photo is of a white rose. However, when I was messing with the levels I found this which has subtle hues of violet and yellow. I also wanted to capture the symmetry of the rose--in terms of the divine proportion found in nature and the whole aspect of spiraling of a nautilus which is what inspired me.

Bravo! I really like this shot, the colours work well together and the composition and cropping job is fantastic. Well Done.

That is so cool! I'm not really sure how this is the result of two photos together, but it's awesome! The focus and lighting are amazing, but what brings out the "wow" is the colors, positioning, and the rose itself. I have never seen a rose with petals looking like those, or maybe it's just the photomanipulation that made them like that (I don't mean it as a bad thing!). At first I thought that the angle of this shot wasn't appealing, but I read the title and it made complete and total sense :)

I really like the lighting on this flower. The flower looks close to death, but the shot still looks really nice. Good job.

I love the lighting in this picture. I like the purple and yellow together in the flower and the way some areas are also white still. there is such detail in the rose. this is an awesome picture!

i really like this picture.... Bringing out the Hues was a very good idea it really adds to the image....Using a black background was also a very good idea it helps to focus on the rose...

very cool photo. The upfront view of the flower gives it nice surroundings. The only thing I do not truly like about the photo is that the center of the rose is not in the exact center of the picture. The levels adjustment made on the photo was a great idea and makes it much more interesting. Great Job!!!

I'm not sure if I like the color manipulation. maybe if it was a little less dramatic it would appeal to me a little bit more. But that is just my opinion. I can tell that you put a great deal of thought and effort into this picture so I give it an A for effort!

This is a really well executed shot. Both compositionally and and in the post-process work you've done. Good job.

This picture was well taken. I like how the background is dark and the closer you get to the middle of the rose it gets lighter. I like the colorings of the rose. Some spots are yellow, pink and even white. This picture is really pretty.
