Butterfly

Contributed by J Crocker

I took this picture at the Birmingham Zoo over the summer. I like it because the butterfly is sharp and in focus. Butterflies are pretty neat, and yeah, thats about it.

Jade your dof and vignetting on this image are really well done. I also appreciate how the green leaves frame but don't distract from the subject. The one in focus leaf at the bottom is slightly distracting, you could apply a bit of Gaussian blur to it and have it melt away.

This picture is beautiful. Your depth of field is really good. The colors seem to pop, and you have a good sense of leading lines.

You're right Mr. Myers, lol. I didn't even notice that leaf until you pointed it out.

jade this is very good as usual it is a fairly simple shot but something about it really catches your eye the color is interesting and i kinda wanna say something about the crop but that would be pointless cause i like the croop but whateva homey

Beautiful photo. Also showin up on people! Good job. My only wish for this photo is that the butterfly would have a little brighter colors, Maybe that is just me though. Beyond the leaf at the bottom being a little distracting, it is a quite amazing photo.

i like the way the focus of the camera is on the butterfly. however, josh has a good point about the color of the butterfly, it would look really good if it was a little lighter. very good picture.

First of all, really great description jade, I agree, butterflies are pretty...and great picture too. The bright pink of the flower, the solid green tones of the leaves in the background work very well. But of course, the crowning achievement of this picture is the depth of field. The focus does a great job of making the subject very clear

This is a wonderful photo! The color composition is amazing as is the focus. You did a really good job with the rule of thirds as well.

I like the way you were able to use the light to focus on the butterfly although when looking at the picture some focus is taken away by the flower.

there's not too much I can say about this picture that hasn't already been said. I agree that this photo is awesome, and that its depth of field amazing. The one thing i can say is that i desagree with josh and morgan about the butterfly. I think if it were brighter color it wouldn't fit in as well with the photo. The dark reddish brown matches well with the pink flowers and the brown of the ground behind it. It makes this picture very easy on the eyes and not hard to look at where an overly bright butterfly might not match and work as well.

This picture has an awesome focus and I also like how the leaves frame the subject. It’s a great shot.

yeah, yeah, the depth of field is nice I guess but what really catches my eye on this picture is the vibrance of the colors. the pink really pops against the dull brown background and helps to accent the tiny tinge of red in the butterfly's wings. those pure white spots on the wings also help with their contrast to draw the eye. with this peice the eye doesnt really move around much but stays in the middle. but if you start to draw away you're pulled straight back to the middle by its vividness against the neutral background.
