Diamond in the Rough

Contributed by L Jett

I took this picture on my recent journey to downtown Birmingham to take photos of architecture. The church was on a corner surrounded by modern architecture and skyscrapers, you could say the church was like a diamond in the rough. The black and white brings out the texture in the walls of the church.

Love this Picture Laura.
It looks very professionally done and makes me think of an old film or something. It feels like the light in the lantern is a flame and that this is a cold winter night or something crazy like that. Very well done.

This picture immediately caught my eye. I love the soft grays, whites, and blacks. I’m not sure what this looked like in color, but I think black and white fits it perfectly. It gives the photo a very antique feel. Good job.

I love the imperfections in the lamp. It makes it look old and rustic. I really like the lighting, the angle, and the contrast of texture in this photo. I would only suggest playing around with the placement and perhaps using the rule of thirds.

I’m really big on texture. The brick and stained glass windows add so much texture; it really grabs you and heightens the mood of the photograph. I like the tones of this black and white photo as well. You go from the bright light in the lamp, too the dreary dark corners of the doorway. Great photo.

This picture kind of has a spooky feel which in my point of view, really fits with the idea. The black and white also makes the picture stand out.
