Mussel Beach

Contributed by Chris Mattox

I took this picture down on Lake Martin late last January. I was out, as usual, for a walk when I looked down and saw this collection of five mussels just sort of sitting in the mud. I tried this photo a couple of times, and this was the one that came out the best. After that, just a little bit of levels, hue/saturation, and sharpening adjustment, and here you are.

I really like this Mattox. I like the angle of the shot and how the mussels are nice and sharp. Well done Mattox.

Mattox! I think this is a cool shot. The muscles look crisp and stuff but i think this shot would be better if the background was cropped out a bit. You have a lot of background that is blurry and unneeded.Anyways, good shot from your pool of old photos :D.

i really like the perspective of this shot combined with the various tones of brown. i think it would be cool to have the whole shot in focus and the waves visibly crashing instead of the depth of field. but either way its a good shot...good job.

I really like the perspective you have in this photo. The subjects are crisp, and I like the depth of field. I also like that there is a lot of background in the image because it adds to the drama of the photo by making the mussels look small. I do agree with a previous comment that said it might have been a little better with a bit more of the photo in focus, but I don't think the whole image should be clear, and I like the way it is anyway. The only thing that really bothers me is that there isn't a central subject matter, but I think that works for this shot as well. This is a really cool image.

I love any outdoor places that have water. That is why this picture drew my attention so much. I also like the angle of the photo, how the lens looks so even with the ground.

This is a great angle and perspective. The lighting, colors, and textures add interest to the photo. I like how the mussels are still and in focus where the waves are blurry and provide motion. This would be a great picture to hang at a beach house.

Nice job on this photo! Usually a glare would be bad in a photo but here it is necessary to tell that the ground is wet. I like the water, the clams and the sky in the background.

I like how the mussels are all centered yet staggered throughout the shot. I also like the waves coming up in behind the mussels and all of the mud that they’re in and covered in.

The picture in all would look better if the focus was a little clearer.

I love the sun coming from the left too.

This picture gives a good feeling off. It’s playful and happy.
GREAT JOB!

I Like how the little shells are out of focus and the water that is in the background is out of focus. You can see everything in the background even though it is out of focus.
