Flander's Field

Contributed by E Schmelzle

I took this picture at Flander's Field. For those of you who do not know where this is, its in France. It looks like an endless amount of graves from the American soldiers of World War II

Nice rhythm--try moving your horizon line up to add emphasis to the crosses and de-emphasize the sky!

I like your photo and the angle is good. I agree with the other criticism in that your horizon line needs to be moved up a bit. Also, tree in the background is right in the middle. I do like how you have the tree on the left side of the photo, and the angle at which you snapped the crosses.

this is powerfull.
hard to diss a Flander's Field picture.
but I'll critique anyway. My first thought of course is that the depth of field is pretty spiffy, well utilized, and what not. also, the tree to the left creates great natural framing for the composition. then though, like Mr. Anonymous above, I noticed the tree in the back that is a might bit distracting. also, I saw the flowes someone had set infront of one of the crosses. while not upsetting the composition as it is I thought that the shot might be better if you had made that point your main focus. regardless though, I like this piece, horizon line and all.

This photo puts me in a place of sadness. It makes me think of being in a cemetery with the wind blowing in my face, and how I might be feeling when I’m there. You captured the colors, the angle, and the feeling perfectly.

the colors are very contrasting but if you had lowered the camera and gotten the first stone in the picture more it would have gotten the lines of the stones.

this is a really neat shot. i love the way the tree frames the shot. great leading lines as well. i kind of wonder what the photo would look like without the first cross in the foreground...it could be less distracting or it might interfere with the nice angles... nice work!

its kind of a typical picture subject that you see in a lot of military related things. but i think overall it's a good job. not much sticks out as awesome when it comes the artist perspective, but the actual picture suffices.

Nice subject and decent capture of it. The horizon feels a little tilted and I agree that since the sky is a little blah, it would have been better to put the horizon higher and focused on crosses.

nice picture man. ya i am with CJ on this. you can not diss flanders field. I like how u got the implied lines with the graves. that is a real cool effect. I like the greens and the whites of the graves. that is a good contrast. i also like how u got so much distance on the picture. it really makes the picture powerful seeing so many graves. I do not like the tree so close. that is just my personal oppinion. i just think that the picture is more focused on the graves and not the tree. It would do better farther back with the others. overall this is a great picture. good job.

This is a really cool picture. i love that its taken on a good day with good clouds and sky. the brightness of the green colors is very nice, and goes well with the white crosses. i wish it had been taken closer to the ground and there was less of the big tree on the left. other than thats its pretty good.

This is such a great photo. The way the grave markers lead into the background gives it a great layering effect. This is a good rule of thirds photo. All the grave markers seem to be pretty well in focus.
