Wrong side of the road

contributed by L Hamby

I went to the quarry last weekend, and we found this bike in the water. So, I took a picture of it. I did a color correction and a hue/saturation adjustment to brighten the colors, because they were a bit dull. I also ran a sharpening filter on it and cropped it some.

I like the colors in this picture, and the way the mud shows up on the picture. I'm not sure if I like the way the bike is facing.

i think you did a wonderful job on this photograph. i like the composition although the right handle bar is oddly cropped. the abstract placement of the bike creates great interest and that, combined with the mud on the bike, makes me wonder how the bike got there and what is the story behind it. i think you did well with the focus also..i like that the background is blurred and the foreground is all in crisp focus. it starts to blur towards the edge of the rock and the movement of sharp to blurry creates nice depth and moves my eye into the composition. i could keep going, but in summary, great job :)

This is a compelling image, and each time I see it I look at it again. This is always a good sign. So I decided to take a closer look and see what it is that drawing me in. My conclusion is that you did an excellent job on the crop. I like the way the bike extends beyond the frame on three sides. By filling the frame with the subject you invite the viewer to take a closer look. Your excellent focus and sharpness has revealed lots of interesting details that keep the eye engaged. My only suggestion would be to try it with the top cropped right at the top of the tire. The upper left rock is slightly distracting, due to its soft focus, maybe you could selectively sharpen it. Great Job!

I like this photo a lot; it touches my interests because I enjoy biking quite a bit. This picture has good lighting and very good composition, with the bike off to one side. Also it is interesting because the bike is not on both wheels. This picture is interesting to me, but it kind of represents loss because the bike is all alone, the seat is crooked, and it is very dirty, it looks like somebody abandoned it.

This is a really nice picture. I think the lighting on this picture is near perfect. I like how the bike is really dirty to as opposed to the "clean" rock. It creates a nice contrastion. I would have liked to see a slight angle adjustment though. Like maybe one step over to the right and moving the camera left, that way all of the bike is visible. Other than that it is an excellent picture.

This photo is absolutely amazing. I LOVE how the bike is covered in mud/dirt along with its surroundings and background because the whole picture looks so outdoorsy and rustic. Also, the fact that the bike is tilted up on the back tire instead of on both tires like you would normally see a bike gives the picture more originality.

The subject completely fills the frame which is excellent and the lighting and colors in the photo enhance its look.

This picture makes me want to go bike riding through mud and be adventurous. It’s calming and peaceful. Great photo.

I love the composition so much. The bike looks like it really belongs there, with the plants growing around it. I know you said you brightened the colours, but I actually think it's very appropriately mute - it kind of makes the subject more rustic-looking.
( er, rust-ic? if that's a pun it was unintended, I promise. )

Really great texture and negative space around the subject. Good work!

I like the bright green and blues in this photo. The focus is on the bike, but also the area around it which does not make it stand out easily. I do like how it is cropped to still let some of the surroundings show but make it obvious that the bike is the focus point. I get an almost sad feeling from this photo like someone tossed their bike aside and did not care about it anymore. Good job!

This is an amazing picture top to bottom side to side! The composition is amazing! I love the overgrown plants filling up what would’ve been empty space, the colors and the raggedness of the rock. It all fits together cohesively and I wouldn’t change a thing about this photo! Keep up the amazing work!

When I first saw this image, I thought, "Uh-Oh!!!" Then, I thought, "OOPSIE!!!!" Then, I realized that I really like the interesting textures put on the bike, that seem to give it an aged look to it, and the worn, rusted tires & frame on the bike, which add to the look. Very good shot, and VERY good eyes- you were very observant that day!
