Getting Gloomy

Contibuted by L Townson

I took this photo on, again, Morris Avenue downtown. I really like the composition, of the photo, and how the colors capture a mood of a gloomy rainy day. It's really not one of my favorites because of a few pure white problems I couldn't fix but I think it looks pretty decent.

ya man, i think it's pretty solid frame. i think it could use some touch up in the background (tone down the light). you might be able to use this in some sorta collage or something like that.

I think this picture is brilliant. I love how you used the lines of the alley to draw the viewer to look out into the open. You did an awesome job of using the lines available. I also like the lighting and how it’s darker in the alley. The picture has a very interesting feel to it. The photo looks somewhat depressing, but also makes the viewer curious. It makes me want to go explore and find out what’s there. You did a fabulous job!

This picture kind of looks like it was just snapped without any planning or any real thought going into it. The lighting is kind of not so great, maybe if there wasn’t a shadow, like if it was taken from after the spot with the overhang thing, or actually it is supposed to be king of gloomy, I guess there should have been more shadow, maybe it could have been set to grayscale. I don’t really know what to look at, the shine on the road kind of takes away from the picture by making it slightly confusing, it’s not the worst, but there is defiantly room for improvement.

I like how this picture is leading somewhere. I don’t quite understand what the “point” of the picture is getting at. Some technical features you used were some kind of program setting. Elements of composition used here are leading the subject. The mood I get off of this picture is a rainy day/ gloomy.

I like your picture but I was a bit disappointed when I clicked on your portfolio.

I am not as convinced as Tori but I do think the shot has merits. The composition is good and I like the dark to light that leads my eye into the shot. I do wish you had controlled the highlights a bit more. I think the window closest to the frame on the left needs to be cropped and I would like to see this in b/w. good job

I like this photo a lot. I think it would be cool if you adjusted the levels and made it darker. The exposure is good. The depth of the photo is good. It makes me want to wander through there. The lighting of the sky is kinda blinding. But it may just be because of the reflection of it on the water. I think if there were an object the photo would be better. This picture is gloomy. I like this photo because it reminds me of a place I have been before and I liked that place.

I was drawn to this photo because I love alley way shots like this one. Had this been taken looking straight up the alley much of what makes this photo great would be, lost so good job on the angle. My only complaint is the fact that the lines lead up to the open street, only in the process my eyes contract from the brightness. Tone it down and this photo will be awesome. PC-SP

I like the fact this picture looks old and vintage. The use of lines in the picture with the windows stands out to me. The colors seems dark and gloomy, to make the picture pop even more then it already does try to use the curves or desaturate it a little bit.

The picture is really good, i love alley way shots and old vintage shots, it caught my eye and its a creative picture.

I like how the walls both lead to one area, but I am not sure what the subject is exactly. The lighting seems a little bright for it being a gloomy picture. I do like how the lines all lead to one spot. I do not get the gloomy feeling from this photograph like I was suppose to, but it was a good concept.
