A Streetlight Manifesto

Contributed by A Glass

I took this photo from the balcony of a coffee shop down town. I edited this photo using a curves adjustment layer and then converted it to black and white. I found the subject very interesting and hope that you enjoy it.

I like the subject. I think it might have looked better if the lamp wasn't right in the middle of the picture, though. I agree that it is very interesting!

i don't particularly like this shot. i'm confused as to what the subject actually is- in my opinion, the wood pole and lamp are competing as subjects. i think the wood pole and power line would have been a much more powerful subject, the lamp to me detracts from the picture. the background is also distracting because the balconies are at a diagonal which confuses my eye. some positives are that the power line moving at a slight diagonal across the right of the shot works well with the pole and lamp in moving the eye throughout the shot. i also think black and white was a good choice. overall, not your best work but then again, art is subjective.

First I must say that I really like this photo. But I actually like how the subject is a simple street light, because personally I have never seen a street light up close before and with picture I can See How they really have a cool and stylish design. Nice picture homes. j.k.

Andrew, great photo and good choice of black and white. I am a big fan of street lights and what not so this appeals to me. However; I would have moved the shot over to the right. The stuff to the left of the pole takes away from the light. Overall good shot. PC-SP
