Light Bulb Awesome

Contributed by B Townson

I took this picture of a lamp in my living room. I set the shutter speed up to 4600 and set my aperature to 5.6. With those settings a well lit room looks dark so i put the camera right up against the lamp and i think it turned out pretty nice.

i actually really like this photo. the subject follows the rule of thirds and the crop is nice. i like that the light dims as it moves away from the source, which creates a sense of depth and helps move the eye into and away from the composition. the dim lighting also gives somewhat of an old feel to a modern subject. i also think the lightbulb looks digital in this photo which is interesting. overall, i think you did a very nice job on your one photograph that you took ;)

This is a good photo. It follows the rule of thirds. I like the lighting. It's dark and gives an eerie feeling. Overall, good job!

Even though this photo is very simple and plain, I really like it. It follows the rule of thirds and has a very good depth of field. The dim, fading light really adds to the character of the shot because it could have easily been brighter and overpowered the other aspects in the scene. The actual light bulb has an awesome look to it as well. The simplicity of this photo is what really makes it appeal to me. There is nothing that I would change about it and it is an overall very good photo.

Cool photo. I really like this shot. I like how you are able to see the details of the actual bulb while its lit. The dark spots and imperfections in the glass give it a really nice touch. I also like the monochrome look to it. It almost looks like a picture of one of the first light bulbs. Really dim and yet still bright enough to be usable. I can't think of anything really to improve the shot, maybe a bit of a levels adjustment to brighten up some more of the lamp shade. As it is there is a lot of dark framing the light, which is nice, but there may be a bit to much dark. Overall, great idea and well executed. This could be a great wallpaper image. MFS from SPHS

I really like this picture. Mainly because of your color tones. This picture has a very soft contrast and makes the feeling warm. I would have to say that the lighting is very well done on here too. Great job on setting your aperture and shutter speed. Very good job!

The lighting in the background is nice. i like how it slowly changes from dark to light, and how its kind of soft while the light bulb has a sharp edge giving it DOF. It is more interesting since its off to the side a little. Its like the sun! There is that really big dark spot up at the top of the picture which distracted me a little though. Looking at this makes me feel a little bit calm. i think it has to do something with the color. i really like this photo because of the mood it showed when i looked at it and just the idea made me like it.

The composition of this photo is really well done, with your eye immediately drawn to the light bulb and not to anywhere else. The colors are very warm and I guess the only thing you might would have changed was a little more brightness in the darker corners of the photo, but other than that it is a truly excellent shot.

I'm not gonna lie- this definitely isn't your best work, and I just didn't find it that interesting. I don't think that there is enough "stuff," or content, in the picture. However, I do have a suggestion- perhaps you could have tried using a more interesting lamp shade, like going to a lamp shop (They have those, right?) and taking different pictures and compositions. It's a really good idea though, and I believe it has a lot of potential!

in response to chris's comment, sometimes the simplest of subjects deliver the most powerful of messages.

Well in response to Larl.'s comment that was in response to Chris' comment, I agree.

This isn't very interesting or unique. I like the light source, and how the picture is take with the lamp on and the lights off. It gives the picture a sense of depth. Theres very little detail in this photo. The photo is a good rule of thirds, and the light bulb does grab my attention. I think the picture would have been more interesting if there was a shadow of some sort.

This is a very unique photograph, and I love the soft brown color it has. It gives off a relaxing feel. Good job with the technical stuff- shutter speed, and aperture of course :)! You also used the rule of thirds, so excellent job with that.

The thing I love about photography is that it takes ordinary, everyday objects and makes them something unique to look at. I think you did a great job at that. I could still tell that this is a lamp, but you made it interesting. Good job!

I like this one because the lightbulb is dulled to a dim light. Also the rule of thirds is applied by the way the light is on the right side of the photo. I also like how you captured it underneath the shade, because that way you can see the light against it that creates a neat angle.

I like the angle of the reflected light in the background because of the lamp shade. I also like how the rule of thirds is applied by the bulb being on the right side of the photo. I also like that the bulb looks dim, it gives it an antique feel.
