Forgotten Friend

Contributed by L Newport

Logan showed me this old, abandoned neighborhood one day. Some of the houses had all kinds of stuff still in them and things like a teddy bear and old doll head strewn about the yard. I liked this image because I think it captures a mood and tells a story, whatever that story may be to you. I cropped the photo and did slight levels, curves, and hue/saturation adjustments. I also ran a smart sharpen filter.

Really cool picture. I love how this very vibrant bear was just lying around on the ground. I really like how its orange fur contrasts with the rusted metal, wood, and leaves. I also like how in my head I can almost see the little kid holding that bear years ago. The only thing I would have done differently would have been to crop it a little farther out and off center. But this is really nice this way. MFS from SPHS

This picture is really attracting. what i like about this image is that all the objects in it match fro example i see how the Teddy bear and the road are wet and i also see how the leaves are wet too. I like the colors and like how you did the levels, curves , saturation adjustments. i don't have anything to say about it you did good job ;)

Whoa I love this! Looking through the photos to critique, yours immediately caught my eye. I love the way the bears really "pops" off the photo. It's kind of eerie in a way but I like that aspect, like it tells a story. I like how the bear is, obviously the main focus, but is also the center of your shot. To draw attention to that object and then force the viewer's eye around the entire photo is a nice trick. I love the clarity of the image and the subtlety of the background, it really adds to the mood of the overall photograph regardless of the intention. I also like the fact that this didn't require too much editing because a natural shot is always the best! Great job!

The sharpness of this picture is perfect. I also like how dynamic this photo is. There is a lot of texture from the leaves and wooden fence. I agree with you on how it portrays a mood, it is very melancholy to me. Also, the posture of the subject aids in the mood of this picture because its arm is up whole the other one is down. It looks like somewhat of a sad goodbye to me. Great job, Harl :)

I REALLY like this photo. It is so eye-catching! I love the simple composition of the photo, it really works for this. I agree that the image tells a story, it really makes me wanna hug somebody! :( I also like how the bear isn't just lying in the middle of no where, there are objects and lines that lead the eye throughout the entire photograph.

I like this photo. It's a good subject, and the colors help 'tell the story'. But - I think a different angle could of given off a better vibe of the surroundings. If you would of seen more of the trash and junk every where it would of given more of an abandoned feel- instead of just looking like an old lost bear. Good job though.

This picture is really interesting. The mood is so sad. The colors go well with each other. I also really like the texture of the teddy bear. It all feels so real. Good photography.

I really like the colors in this photo. The bear really pops out of the picture next to the gray wood and brown leaves. The mood definitely does tell a story. When I first saw this, it looked to me as if some disaster happened (such as a tornado) and a family had to leave everything behind. I really like the emotion of this picture a lot. You did an excellent job using the levels, curves, and hue/saturation adjustments!

My favorite photos are usually the ones that tell a story or send a message, which this image achieves superbly. The "cloudy day" lighting and the wetness of the bear really give it a dreary, just rained atmosphere. The bear almost looks sad and forgotten, which really adds to the value of the picture. The one problem I can see is a bit of distracting green stuff at the bottom right corner of the image, perhaps a mesh material? Otherwise, a great image!

I really like this shot. It captures the mood of the photo very well. It is sad and tells a story of abandonment and loss. The colors in this photo really make it seem more real. It really invokes a feeling of sadness. This photo is very well taken.

When I first came upon this photo it kind of scared me, but then I realized that’s what I love the most. It is quite random and unique, but very in focus. The only problem I see is you could’ve captured a little bit more and used rule of thirds, other than that the picture turned out really well!

I like this photo because it still has the look of fall in it. I also like how bright the bear looks and I think it’s cool that it sticks out like that.

Oh my gosh this picture just makes me want to cry! LIt looks like it rained which reminded me of what our state has been living through over the past couple of weeks: flooding. You mentioned the abandoned neighborhood and it made me think of people evacuating homes and all that, ANYWAYS, this shot is AMAZING!I love how the bear is so vividly colored despite its soggy filth. It look so sad and lonely amongst the wet wood and leaves, truly left behind. The use of natural light is perfect and you centered the sugbect very well. You should be proud of this shot.

I like that everything is clear and sharp. The bear is in the center of the picture and makes it a little less interesting. I do like how there are leaves and how the wood leads your eyes to the bear. It makes you think that the bear has been there for a long time. I kind of wish the bear was just a tad bit more dirty. The color of the bear really catches my eye and it doesn't allow the bear to fade into the background which is good. This photo makes me feel nostalgic and a bit sad. It makes me think of where my stuff animals are now. This is a really nice photo.

First off, this is just one of the few pictures I don't think I have anything to say about improving. The quality is perfect and even though there are a few stray branches around in the background, they don't seem to distract my attention from the teddy bear. I like the colors, the textures, the quality, this is a very good picture for all its worth. Good job.

I think that maybe you could have used the rule of thirds on this picture, although you can still tell how the bear is the main focus. This picture makes me sad, I hope you picked up that bear and gave it a home. The bear even looks sad. Great picture!

This is an incredible picture. The drenched, moldy bear makes this picture unique in its own way. As everyone has mentioned before, it tells a deep story about this neighborhood. And yes, the bear pops off the screen. I really, really like how decayed everything is in contrast to the bear which still maintains its color. I also like the springs on the old mattress support hiding beneath the leaves; i think that gives the image a lot of variation with the lines from he metal frame and the wooden frame. Its awesome. I love it.

This photo immediately caught my eye. The contrasting colors and textures is visually appealing. I specifically love the texture on the weathered bears fur, and the blue in the picture is very unique, and overall the photo is not overly messed with. Great!!

This picture is captivating. It almost breaks your heart in a sense. I love the browns and reds in the background because it really makes the teddy bear stand out. It gives you a feeling of helplessness. But I think that’s because it is such a powerful shot. This is an incredible shot. (:

In this photo, I really like the message that it portrays even though it is very sad. The lighting of this photo is perfect; I really like how sharp it is. The only thing I would change is how the bear is off center. All in all, I really like this picture. It caught my attention right away.

This photo gives a very sad and gloomy feeling. The leaves colors are so clear and vivid. The teddy bear is wet and gives the feeling that a little child has lost its teddy bear. The quality of the picture is so sharp, but I think the bear should be centered.

This photo caught my attention the minute i looked at it! The mood of the image portrays sadness :'(. I liked how the main focus meaning the bear stands out of the photo. The color of the bear also is very interesting because it contrasts with the colors of the background. I also agree that when you get in the photo you can almost see a story that occurred behind it. The sharpness and lighting are perfect in the image. Keep up the great work! :'O.. x]

This picture really tells a story. The bear looks sad and torn, and along with the broken fence, or whatever its laying on, it really sends a powerful message. The contrast of the bear with the leaves looks great, the picture is also so sharp. TC SPHS

Wow, this is a great picture. It really tells the story of a small child who experienced a tough time in life. The bears sharpness is great it really brings out its fur. The color use with the bear on top of the wood and leaves is great because it shows that there is hope in a dark time. Very good.

This is a nice photo. I love the composition and also how the teddy bear really stands out. I'm not sure if it was intentional but you created great contrast with color temperature. The warm colors on the teddy bear really stand out while the blues on the trash behind recedes. This is artistically a great photo. Good Job.

I really really like this picture. The only thing I would say that could be improved is putting the rule of thirds to better use. This picture reminds me of a flood, it’s a great shot.

The colors in this photo really stood out to me. The composition and lighting were perfect. And I like how everything is in focus. The feeling of being forgotten and lonely really comes through in this photo too.

I like how the bright color of the bear stands out from its surroundings of darkness. I like how everything is in focus, but the subject still is the obvious center of attention. I think it is nice how the area around the bear is shown so it gives the viewer a sense of where this is happening. I get a sad and lonely feeling from this photo because the bear looks as if it was left behind. I really like this shot and it was done well!!
