Upstairs, Green Cup

Contributed by L Townson

I took this photo as part of the urban environments assignment. I went down to Green Cup Books and went to the upper level to take photos. While up there it was starting to get really dark so I solved the issue by lowering the shutter speed and propping the cam on a table. I then moved in front of the camera for about 15 seconds in one chair and 15 in the other chair.

I really like the idea you had for this shot, but I think it is a bit overexposed. The light coming in from the right side of the photo causes some distracting brightness. Other than that, I do really like the chairs and how their position in a line creates some depth. The colors add to the urban feel this photo gives off.

This picture is fantastic. I wouldn’t change a single aspect of it. I love the lighting, and I really like the chairs against the chairs. And I love that you included yourself in it. Very cool, man. Very cool.

This is nice...I like the angle alot and the varying shines throughout it...The chairs move my eyes around the image also. It's a little bit over exposed though so you could have done a levels adjustment to bring down some of the white but other than that it was a pretty good job. Townson B

This is a very cool picture. The one thing I would say to do is either move that cart or crop it out because it is kind of distracting. It would have been kind of cool if you would have been able to get more people but its awesome how it is.

Neat idea, but it’s immediately obvious what you are doing with this photo. In fact, I didn’t even see you at first. The overexposure is really distracting, and it takes up a lot of the frame. The cart is a bit distracting as well. Also, it looks like you are barely there; I think you should have stayed in one seat for longer and not bothered with the other. The background is inconsistent, which makes it look like a part of your head is cut off.
I don’t mean to say that this photo is without merit. The background is interesting without taking up too much attention, the color scheme is consistent, and the direction of the light creates some interesting shadows. This was a really cool idea.

What a great idea! I do love how you incorporated some life, literally, into the photo. To make yourself slightly visible really includes a story and it's fascinating to see the movement within the picture. I do agree with some of the previous comments as far as maybe cropping out the cart on the left side...it is somewhat distracting from what your intended meaning may be for the photo. I do like the blown out lighting on the right side solely because it helps to move my eye around the entire frame and not concentrate on one part of it. I also like the angle at which this was taken. The perspective shows an interesting depth to your shot. It's kind of like light at the end of the tunnel with the viewer's eye leading back to the light! Great job! This shot pops!!

I think the white makes the photo off balanced because theres just to much white on the right side. i love how you put yourself in the photo. It makes me think of two old lovers or something and also because of the white making it seem like its fading. The line of chairs help show depth of field and it isn't dead center where you are sitting. The image is clear and not blurry. i think this photo is pretty interesting and i like it.

I also love the idea you had for this shot. I think you did a very good job with it. I think i wold like it a little better if you had cropped out the cart on the left. But i think that the lighting for this shot is absolutely perfect. especially the brightness on the right of the photo. But i do really like how you put yourself in the photo. It adds a lot to it. -TW SPHS

Logan, I really like this shot, except I don't like that you're in it. I really like the overexposure and how some of the chairs are still visible on the right side. I also like the colour scheme and how the green stands out. Overall, definitely one of your better shots.

This is a really cool picture. The shadow of the person on the chair is really cool because it looks like a ghost

This photo makes me think of the movie Step Up. Ha! It looks like it would be a dance room. I love the chairs and colors and how it gradually goes into over exposed. I probably would have moved that shelf thing in very left of the photo but overall a neat picture.

This picture has a ghost affect to it. I love the contrast, how its darker up close but farther away its light. The idea is very catchy I like how you used the shutter speed to help you disappear in the shot.

this turned out really well. did you use 30 seconds total? because i really like the lighting that you have. the right side/corner is a little over exposed but i think that is what put emphasis on the person. wonderful!
