Softness at the edge

Contributed by J McDaniel

I took this picture last semester with my 35 mm camera. I used black and white film because it was originally for the hi key theme and I wanted to make sure I got lots of white and grey tones. However, when I edited it in photoshop I really liked how it looked when it was darkened and I decided against hi key. I like how the light gives off a pinkish glow and how the white of the plant is illuminated. I edited it with a levels adjustment.

This is probably the coolest picture I’ve ever seen. I really like the lighting of this picture and the old vintage feel that it portrays. The dark and light shades of the plant are really defined, and interesting to look at.

This is an amazing picture! It looks like the photo was taken right after a snowfall. It also look like it is taking place at sunrise or at dusk. The depth of field and general angle are awesome. I also like how it looks like something is off in the distance (in the top right corner), but you can't tell what it is. Great job!

This is a really interesting picture. I like the coloring in the photo and how it has a surreal look to it. It almost looks like it could have been painted.

This picture has good image quality. The light shows the trees well. The snow on the trees gives good contrast to the dark green. The black in the corners of the pictures have alot of contrast to the light in the center. P.O.

This shot is very cool! I love the contrast between the sun and the trees. It gives off the feeling of a sunrise or how the day is going to begin. One thing I love is how the trees in the back are out of focus creating a great depth of field. Once again, Great JoB!

This picture is a very interesting looking picture. I love how the light shines bright and then quickly fades away to a darker tone. The trees looks so real which makes the picture excellent!I love the snow that is laying on the trees! The coloring of my picture isn't my favorite but other than that i absolutely love it!

This is a really cool picture. I like the lighting and how it makes the tips of the trees glow. I also like how the picture looks like its fading.

I really like this picture. I agree that the pink of the light makes it a little more interesting than a plain black and white shot, and the glow gives it a very surreal look. Glad you decided to change it. -JB SPHS

I think that the lighting in this picture is very cool. I like how the edges of the trees are white and fade in the darker tones. I think that the fact that is black and white really adds that extra something to it.

I love the variety in bright to dark in this picture. I love how it whites out in the top middle and darkens as it gets lower down the picture plane. The snow falling off the trees in the forefront is beautiful and adds an interesting vibe to the piece. A.M. - SPHS.

I really like this picture because It looks like the white of the plant is snow. The black and white choice and then darkened image really looks good and puts the4 focus on the front plants rather than the background.

This is possibly one of the coolest pictures I have ever seen! It’s like some sort of dark flower that you would see in a movie or something. I like that there is a light behind the flowers which adds a mysterious glow. The only flaw I see is that it’s kind of grainy, but it’s still a nice picture =) VD-ERHS

I like this because it looks so good, aside from the great adjustments to the original image the shot alone i imagine would have looked incredible. To me it looks like you took this at exactly the right moment. Great shot.

This picture is very interesting. I like how the sunlight fades really quickly and the tips of the trees are shown. It does show a great depth of field but I'm not a big fan of the colors other than that, the picture is great.

This picture is great. I love the contrast between the darker lower portion of the photo and the light that is spilling into it. Excellent usage of focus within the rule of thirds to draw me to the tree.A truly great and almost surreal photo.

The photograph was planned out really well. The white outlining of the plants really brings out an interesting design to the picture. The light as the main point of view was a very good idea it brings so much vintage look to your photograph.

This picture is neat. It gives the sunrise feel. The reflection off the plants gives it also a wet feeling. Very nice.

I like this because of the way that the sun hits the plants. This picture looks older than it really is. It almost looks like it is in black and white but there is a dash of color in the picture which gives the shot more character.

I really ilke this photo because I think it has a lot of emotion to it. By using black and then moving to a white I think creates a almost heaven like effect. Also, I like how the photo has an older touch to it and without the older touch it wouldn't look as complete as it does.

I really love the color in this picture. The muted purple against the yellow light is simply beautiful. To add to it, the white reflections on the plant add such nice contrast between lights and darks in this picture. This has a very vintage feel. -SPHS A.H.
