Untitled

Contributed by M Nerud

This picture is pretty basic, pretty bland, kinda boring, and an all around not-that-great of an idea, but I liked it. The tree was dark in thick fog, and the two extremes contrasted well enough to make me take the picture. Like I said, its nothing special, but the one thing I really like about this picture is it leave room for the unknown around the edges and in the fog. Its just a little spooky or mysterious. Tell me how you like it, and thanks in advance for the feedback.

For an up in the branches shot this one is really very nice. It is very abstract and almost feels like a fractal at times. I like the lack of detail caused by the fog. I also like the slight blue sky that gets through in areas. I am not sold on the composition but I don't think it is bad. The small branch in the upper left feels a little like a mistake, I wish it was a little bigger.

Rather than the shot, I would like to commend *you* for posting this shot. I agree with everything you said about it being a "pretty basic, pretty bland, kinda boring, and an all around not-that-great of an idea"... but the most important part was that DESPITE all of that being obvious to you, YOU liked it, AND you had confidence enough to still post the shot and make it known that you felt it was worthwhile. I think that's refreshing, and it's a nice reminder to the rest of us that (unless it's our job) we shouldn't be taking photos to please other people (overly worried about their comments / likes / dislikes) but instead we take them for ourselves. So as long as you like it, in my mind that's enough to call it a success. Comments and outside opinions are good and (sometimes) helpful, but they should never define for the photographer whether the shot was successful or not.
If you've mastered that already, then I'm sure your photos will continue to improve. Nice work.

Like B. Vail's photo, this has a gauzy quality that I like, for some reason.
It gives the piece a dream-like quality, which is something many of us experience when we look at the sky through the top of a tree. Nice.

As simple as this shot is, it really sets an interesting mood for the viewer. The photo is very calm with neutral colors, but at the same time has a sad and somewhat depressing feel to it. In the end, this is a nice shot.
