A Storm Rolls In

Contributed by C Mattox

This picture was also taken in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, really from the back porch of our room. This cloud pretty much just hung over us for about an hour or so, and I just took the opportunity and got this shot. I have no idea how big this thing was, but it had to have been at least three or four miles high.

I love this picture a lot. Its a great shot of a really interesting looking cloud. I really like how the sun is hitting it, and how you can see the waves of the cloud. It makes it look almost 3-D. Its a very cool shot Maddox.

This picture is awesome. I like how it shows great contrast, going from dark stormy clouds to smooth peaceful clouds. Also, I liked how you cropped this image, leaving a some tree line but not too much to distract your eye. Anyways, keep em coming.

wow. awesome capture. This is probably one of the coolest clouds I have ever seen. Very crisp photo. I'm not so certain of the trees at the bottom of the image however.

holy shiznits. thats a big cloud. another thing I like about this pic, aside from the sheer uniqueness and size of the cloud, is the color gradient in the sky. I typically like blue but the vividness of the sky makes the picture even more intense. as for the trees at the bottom I like them cause it gives the cloud a sence of space. if the trees were cropped out then the cloud would just hang there in space and lack any mood. The trees help create a depth of field and set the sunset setting. they also give the viewer something with which to gain an idea of the clods true size. without them the viewer could assume that you zoomed in on a cloud to simply make it look bigger.

Chris,
What an amazing cloud! There is a name for this type of cloud but I do not know what it is...I have only seen a couple like it in my life. You did a good job with the exposure, keeping the blown out portions to a minimum while getting a good range of grays. I agree with CJ (by the way thanks for all the good feedback CJ we miss you here at the Park) about the trees giving a good sense of scale. Very nice

it sort of reminds me of an ocean in the sky, almost heaven. good placement i guess

I absolutely love this picture! Even though It's just mother nature, that cloud is amazing! Just the whole effect of the cloud rolling in with half light and half darkness just sets the mood for a great storm to come.

That's an amazing picture! The lighting inside the cloud is so pretty! You also did a great job with the single center of interest element of composition.

Cool photo, really like this one, the only thing that I wish is that you would have let a little more on the treeline, not cut it off as much. Very neat clould composure. Keep up the good work!!

I really like this photo because the angle it was taken makes the clouds look 3d. This effect in my eyes makes the picture look more artistic. The colors of this shot are also great!

That is a very special picture. I never saw the clouds like that, and the trees create a depth of field. The lighting inside the cloud is so cool. I like the picture a lot, because it is unique, and the main subject is in the center of the frame.

This is an amazing shot. I love the shape of the cloud and the contrast of the light cloud with the dark trees. It’s really cool that the cloud is crystal clear and really stands out against the slightly out of focus trees. The white balance is incredible in this photo. The cloud is perfectly white. I love how the sky goes from a deep blue to a pale blue with highlights of yellow around it. I don’t’ think it would’ve looked as good if the sky was all the same color. The curves of the cloud also give a soft and subtle touch to the overall photo. I really like this picture. Its very well composed and visually appealing.
