A Rose is Still a Rose

Contributed by A Carr

I took this picture for the empty chair assignment. Yes I know, the chair is not actually empty but I figured it was close enough. I did a levels adjustment to make the highlights really pop and the low lights recede . I also slightly increased the saturation to give it a warmer tone. I like the composition pretty well.

I am in love with this photo. This is probably one of the best photo's I've seen on the blog in a long time. I really like how the red on the rose pedals stand out, and you captured the sense of the chair being worn and textured. The focus is great on the flower and you created excellent depth of field by making the back of the chair out of focus. You have really made this photo surreal.

This is a really nice photo...I like how the white behind the rose and the rose petals themselves are very contrasty...The wood on the chair is a very dark wood which makes the rose stand out that much more...One thing i would have done was on the far left side, put more chair in and try to have the rest of the rose...

Abby this is a sweet shot and a perfectly fine candidate for the empty chair assignment. The rose draws my attention but the chair with all its character then draws my eye back and around the image. The whitish background helps unify the image and makes the rose pop even more.
I like how the placement of the rose on the empty chair makes me think of the story behind ho it got there. Great job on this assignment.

I love this picture so much! Although it appears as if the chair is suppose to be the main focus because of its size, putting the rose there draws all of my attention. The lighting sets the mood for the photo, and since it is soft it enhances the photo. The rose in the empty chair makes me feel like there is a either sad or romantic story behind it. I don't know if this is intended or not, but if it was, you did a good job!

Your photograph really caught my attention because of the great detail of the photo, while keeping it simple. I think the rose adds an intriguing aspect and it gives the photo more meaning and somewhat of romantic feel; the rose draws the eye while also keeping the chair as a focus point. I also like the worn look of the chair; Great job on the color also, it has nice warm tones, as you said. Awesome job!

I like the redness of the rose and the greenness of the leaves; they really make the picture pop. The element of composition used here is single center of interest. The exposure and lighting here looks like it has been tampered with here, but it still looks nice. This picture reflects a loving mood to me.
