Nut Crackin'

Contributed by K Thagard

I took this one day in class in the studio. I thought the nutcrackers would be an interesting subject, and very christmasy! I ran a levels/curves adjustment on the photo. I also cropped the image to eliminate a lot of the extra black space in the background. I like this photo overall.

This is really neat. I love the focus and depth of field.

This lighting used for this particular photo is great. It darkens the background so that only the vibrant colors on the nutcracker are able to be seen. The black background also gives off kind of an eerie feel in the face of the nutcracker.

Depth of Field was also used very well in this shot. The one in the foreground is very clear and the one in the background is blurry but I like how you can still tell what it is and somewhat of its detailed features.

Great Shot!

I really like the colors in this photo. I like how the nutcracker in the back is out of focus. I like that it makes it look really far behind the first one. I like the details you can see in the paint of the first nutcracker, how it looks like it is sparkling from the way the flash hits it.

I like the aligning of the nut crackers. How the nutcracker in the back is blurred is a very nice effect, It makes you focus more on the front nutcracker. The lighting used i very nice and the black background contrasts very well with the colorful nutcrackers. Overall this a very good photo.

I think that this picture is really good. The background in this picture brings out vibrant colors and detail from the nutcrackers. Also you can really see the depth of field in this picture due to the nutcracker being blurry. I also like how the first nutcracker is positioned off to the left in order to grab attention, it is an excellent example of the rule of thirds. Also, this picture has the right amount of light to show crisp detail.

I really like this picture. I like that the nutcracker in the background is blurry while he one in front is in focus. It could prob look pretty cool if it was the other way around too though. its really interesting to look at.. plus the name makes me laugh :)

This photograph really caught my eye because the colors are really vivid and stand out extremely well against the sharp black background you used. I love how you made the first nutcracker the main subject by using a great shallow depth of field. The background nutcracker adds a lot more intrigue to this photo. Nice work!

I really like this photo. It has good depth of field and the colors really pop on the black background. I like how the nutcracker in the front is really focused and the one in the back is blurry so it reads left to right. This is a great photo.

This is a pretty good photo. It has nice use of the rule of thirds as well as a good use of a unique perspective. The blurry, out of focus, second nutcracker in the background helps to emphasize the one in focus that is in the foreground. Again it's a nice photo.

I like this photo and it's christmasy feeling. The idea is very unique. When I see the photo, the nutcracker's face makes me laugh, because the face it's making is priceless! I think you did a pretty good job with the focusing, though the only thing I can say about it is that I'm not a big fan of the blurriness of the background nutcracker. I realize there's not much you could do about it. Maybe a photo with only the front nutcracker would be better. Great job though :)

The depth-of-field in this shot is amazing! Also, I love the color in this photo, and how the color stands out from the overall darkness of the picture. The lighting and the focus are quite creative. Your use of rule of thirds also adds a nice touch. Wonderful job.

This picture is very good. I like the clarity of the closest nutcracker and the blurriness of the further one. the black background makes them really stand out. The fact that theres no gap between the nutcrackers moves your eye from cracker to cracker. Great picture

I really like this. I think you captured alot of detail and the darkness creates an eerie mood. I also like how the nut cracker in the back is blurred and almost blends in with the background good job.

I really like how dark this picture is. It really goes well with the very deep colors of red & blue! I also like how the foreground is perfectly sharp, but the background is nice and blurry. Very simple, yet it's probably the best example of it!
