Magic City

Contributed by A Carr

I took this photo for the Urban Assignment. It was also my first shot at HDR. I did a curves adjustment and pumped the contrast a bit.

This is a pretty cool shot. I like how grungy the city looks, it looks sad and worn down, but the tree makes it more lively. I like the overall feel of the shot. Good job.

I like this photo. I always like good urban pictures and pictures of cities and this one is great. I think the choice to go HDR was well made, seeing as you can now see a lot of detail and contrast in the buildings. The adjustments you made were nice and the image really pops because of them. I would have recommended you only filled the top 1/3 of the picture with sky, instead of half of it, because the sky is kind of bland and there isn't much going on with it. It is a nice green/gray color, but it doesn't need so much attention. Other than that it is a nice picture and I like it. Well done. MFS from SPHS

I like this shot alot. Usually when using HDR the images turn out sort of fake to me, but I think you did a good job of bringing out the range of colors but not overdoing it. I like the side framed by the tree and excess of sky in the picture. Great shot.

I really like this photo it looks very cool. I really like how the sky is over cast it really sets off the colors in the buildings. The color also has a very cold feeling to it. Overall it is a very well token photo. SPHS-AR

I love this picture. I love the colors and how the tree kind of creeps into the side of the picture. The sky looks really soft and the contrast of the colors looks really nice.

Magic city

i like this shot. ive always been interested in downtown bham. this pic captures and brings out the title "magic city". i like how you let the tree stand thre to give you a frame, i like what you did with the sky also, the color is darker than the building so the buildings pop oout more.

i really love this photo. I like how theres differant variations in the color of the sky. And the trees and stuff in the background look really good. I personally like the fact that theres a tree in coming into the left part of the image. Also the fact that the one building says happy birthday is funny. There really isnt anything ide change about this image so great shot!

I really like this photo. Especially since its downtown Birmingham. I don't think the city looks grungy at all, in fact it looks clean and on th e rise. The tree to the side really draws my attention, but in a good way. The Happy Birthday on top of the building made me laugh. The different colors in the sky is a nice addition to the photo. Overall, great shot.

I really like this shot. I’m assuming it was taken from a hillside of another tall building which was a smart idea for the angle. I like all of the colors incorporated here, especially the shades of blue along the horizon behind the buildings. Even though the tree sort of seems like it should distract from the shot, it doesn’t. I think it adds to the cool, fall look of the shot. The lines in this picture are also really creative. The horizon and then the buildings going vertical. The four buildings that stand tall over the horizon make this photo amazing. Great shot.

Nice job with this. There are a lot of colors here for a city shot. I like the contrast between the blues and the reds.
There are a few things that distract from the city. For example, the empty space above the city is such a contrast to the detail of the buildings that it draws our eyes away. The tree on the edge is also a bit distracting, although it might look cool if it was completely in the frame.

This picture is so unreal. I love it! The tree on the left side is a bit distracting, but surely unavoidable. I love the urban feel this has, and how the tones compliment each other well. The colors are so vivid and the sky accentuates the buildings well.
